Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher brings the violence and magic of the Continent to a whole new audience — here is The Witcher cast and character guide. The biggest The Witcher cast news comes in the form of Henry Cavill's exit from the series, post-season 3. Taking on the role of Geralt of Rivia for the remaining seasons will be The Hunger Games' Liam Hemsworth. Based on the books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher has previously been adapted into a TV show, movies, comics, and - most popular of all - a trilogy of action-adventure video games.

Created by Lauren S. Hissrich, Netflix's The Witcher is based on the books, though fans can probably expect a few nods to the games as well (like the famous bathtub scene). Set in a rich fantasy world, the story revolves around three figures: Geralt, as he vainly attempts to steer clear of the Continent's politics; Yennefer of Vengerberg, a peasant girl with a twisted back who becomes a powerful sorceress; and Cirilla, a young princess with an important destiny. The Witcher introduces many characters that fans of the series will be familiar with, like Geralt's bard friend Jaskier, and Yennefer's mentor Tissaia de Vries. Here is Netflix's The Witcher cast.

Henry Cavill As Geralt Of Rivia

The Witcher - Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) holding a sword

Leading The Witcher cast is Henry Cavill's Geralt of Rivia. Brutally trained and experimented upon from childhood, Geralt is a witcher - a wandering monster-killer for hire, whose genetic mutations give him enhanced strength, agility, and senses, as well as prolonged life and some magical abilities. Geralt claims to be indifferent to politics and even to notions of good and evil, working for coin rather than honor. However, despite witchers' reputation for having no emotions, he refuses to kill intelligent creatures (except in self-defense) and has a few other soft spots. Unfortunately, Henry Cavill will be leaving the show after The Witcher season 3.

Henry Cavill is best known for playing Superman in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. He also starred in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Mission: Impossible - Fallout. Cavill has a fair few projects coming down the pipeline, including The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Argylle, The Rosie Project, and the upcoming video game Squadron 42. Henry Cavill's The Witcher exit was announced by the actor himself, and it wasn't revealed until 2022 that he would be replaced by Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth.

Yennefer, Ciri, and Geralt

The Witcher cast expands with the third season on the way. Following The Witcher season 2, nearly the entire Continent is about to explode into all-out war, and most are unaware of the impending threat of the Wild Hunt. As Nilfgaard consolidates its forces in Cintra, elves mount guerilla attacks from north to south, while the Northern Realms' rulers and mages turn their focus on Ciri. Joining the final season of Henry Cavill's The Witcher stint are the following newcomers to the cast of The Witcher season 3.
