A piece of fan art for Netflix’s The Witcher turns Henry Cavill’s Geralt into a cyberpunk hero. The Witcher franchise began in 2007 when CD Projekt Red released the first video game in the series on PC. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would follow in the coming years. With the popularity of the franchise, it was only a matter of time before it got a movie or TV show adaptation, and in 2019, Netflix released the first season of The Witcher starring Cavill as Geralt, Freya Allan as Ciri, and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer.

The Witcher season 1’s nine episodes were well received, successfully appealing to long-time fans and people who had never played the video games. After season 1 united Geralt and Ciri, season 2 showed her training with the other Witchers at Kaer Morhen as the war continued between Nilfgaard and the Northern Realms. The show’s first season had a lot of world-building to do, with many calling it Netflix’s Game of Thrones, but season 2 was able to strengthen Geralt and Ciri’s bond and include multiple monster battles through the nine episodes.

Netflix’s The Witcher has garnered a large fan base over the past few years, and much like any big franchise, many talented artists have created artwork inspired by the series. Houseofmat takes an exciting approach, putting Geralt in a cyberpunk setting. The artist’s new design for Cavill’s character can be seen in the Instagram post below:

Because of The Witcher’s success and fan approval, Netflix likely doesn’t have an end in sight for Geralt’s story. The Witcher season 3 is currently in production, and season 4 has already been mapped out by writers and producers. Season 2 ended with Geralt, Yennefer, and the surviving Witchers saving Ciri from Voleth Meir (the Deathless Mother). The Witcher season 2’s big cliffhanger reveals Ciri’s father, Emhyr var Emreis, is the White Flame. While these storylines are expected to be key plot points in The Witcher season 3, it’s all but guaranteed Geralt will not get a cyberpunk makeover.

Because the cyberpunk genre is entirely different from The Witcher, this artwork of course isn't speculating on what could be seen in The Witcher season 3. After all, it would feel incredibly out of place to see Geralt like this in the live-action series. Netflix could create a series similar to Marvel's What If...?, but even that seems a bit unnecessary for a franchise like The Witcher. The artwork certainly presents an interesting idea, and the most likely way a cyberpunk Geralt could enter the series is through a skin in a future Witcher video game. None of the above will likely happen, but it doesn't take away from the artist's impressive concept.
