The Witcher season 3 keeps adding more characters to its cast, and a recent addition hints at a huge monster threat coming this season. The fantasy genre is home to various universes, and one that has become widely popular in recent years is that of The Witcher, created by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher is a series of novels and short stories that gained worldwide popularity thanks to its video game adaptations, and in 2019, it got its first English language adaptation thanks to Netflix, becoming one of the streaming giant’s most popular TV shows so far.

Season 1 of Netflix’s The Witcher followed its three main characters – Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), and Ciri (Freya Allan) – through different places and points in time, with their paths converging towards the end of the season. Season 2 opted for a linear narrative and saw Geralt taking Ciri to Kaer Morhen for training and protection while Yennefer, now powerless, made a dangerous deal with the Voleth Meir. In both seasons, The Witcher has introduced a variety of monsters, with Geralt struggling to defeat some of them, and season 3 will be no exception, and the introduction of a new character hints at a new (and huge) monster threat for Geralt and Ciri.

According to Redanian Intelligence, The Witcher season 3 has cast Stuart Thompson as Fabio Sachs, whose story in the books is linked to an encounter with a dangerous monster: a wyvern, and this could bring out a side of Ciri that viewers are hoping to see now that she trained at Kaer Morhen.

The Witcher’s Fabio Sachs & Wyvern Explained

The Witcher games wyvern

Fabio Sachs is the son of Fabio Sachs Sr, a clerk working for the Giancardi Bank in Gors Velen who later became an explorer. Young Fabio worked with his father at the bank, where one day, Molnar Giancardi (the owner of the bank) asked him to guide Ciri around the city while he spoke to Yennefer. While walking around, Fabio and Ciri came across a man advertising a “basilisk” from Zerrikania, and intrigued by it, they went in. The basilisk was actually a wyvern, with Ciri telling the man about it and him challenging her to survive the creature’s venom as a test. Ciri took the challenge, but the wyvern broke out of its cage and attacked its owner, so she killed the creature (thanks to her training at Kaer Morhen). The crowd believed it was the work of a young squire standing nearby but soon learned Ciri was to blame and chased her. Ciri then used an amulet Yennefer gave her and summoned Tissaia and Margarita Laux-Antille, who believing she was an escaped student from Aretuza, put her under a paralysis spell.

A wyvern is a species of ornithosaur with a snake-like neck, a long tail ending in a venomous trident, and adorned in dark scales. Their teeth allow these creatures to swoop down from the sky, snatch their prey, and take it to their nest, and they take animals and humans. Coming across a wyvern in The Witcher season 3 would be a huge step for Ciri as so far she hasn’t really fought any creature, as she’s always with someone who knows how to fight them, so it would be her chance to show her training and prove that she can defend herself. As for Fabio Sachs, it’s highly likely he will be a one-episode character like many others in The Witcher, such as Nivellen in season 2, but he can bring Ciri to meet her first big monster opponent, though what will happen after that and how Geralt will react is to be seen.
