Warning: SPOILERS lie ahead for The Witcher novels & potentially season 3.

A major Geralt fight from the books looks to be recreated in a new Witcher season 3 set photo. The Netflix series is based on Andrzej Sapkowski's novel franchise of the same name centered on Geralt of Rivia, the eponymous monster hunter as he ventures through the medieval world known as The Continent and battles a number of creatures. Geralt also learns of his destiny being intertwined with that of Princess Ciri of Cintra and the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg.

Henry Cavill leads the cast of The Witcher as Geralt alongside Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Freya Allen as Ciri, Eamon Farren, Joey Batey, MyAnna Buring, Mimî M. Khayisa, Anna Shaffer, Mahesh Jadu, Tom Canton and Kim Bodnia as Vesemir. The series has performed well with critics across its first two seasons and been a ratings hit, spawning a franchise on the streaming platform including the animated spinoff The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and the upcoming prequel miniseries Blood Origin, as well as season 3 of the mainline series. Filming on The Witcher season 3 kicked off in April and now fans of the series are getting an exciting tease of the next chapter in the show.

As production continues on the next chapter of the hit Netflix series, Redanian Intelligence has shared a new Witcher season 3 set photo. The image shows Geralt on a beach-like setting fighting Vilgefortz, indicating a recreation of a major fight from the source novels. Check out the set photo below:

The Witcher season 3 set photo seemingly points towards a recreation of the Geralt and Vilgefortz fight from Sapkowski's Time of Contempt novel, where the Roggeveen sorcerer attempted to convince the Witcher to join what he believes to be the winning side in the war between Nilfgaard and the Northern Kingdoms. Geralt, well known for remaining neutral in most political conflicts, refused Vilgefortz's offer and fought the sorcerer to help protect Ciri in her efforts to escape, with Geralt memorably suffering his first major defeat in the novels and was left badly wounded. Geralt would narrowly survive this encounter and be saved by Triss Merigold and Tissaia de Vries, who committed suicide after realizing the error of her ways in helping Vilgefortz.

Given much of The Witcher season 2 adapted the events of Time of Contempt, it seems likely hits major Geralt and Vilgefortz fight will see a proper recreation in season 3 of the Netflix series. With the novel's storyline also seeing Ciri coming to terms with her powers by electing to renounce them all together, the season 3 set photo's tease of further adapting Time of Contempt hints at exciting new arcs for Geralt and Ciri in the upcoming season. While audiences await further details on The Witcher season 3, they can catch up with the first two seasons streaming on Netflix now.
