A video released to confirm that filming for season 2 of The Witcher has wrapped provides a sneak peek at a new set. Shortly after debuting on Netflix in December 2019, season 1 of The Witcher was one of the streaming service's most-watched original series. Based on a series of novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher follows Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), a monster hunter mutated by magic at a young age. The series also follows an eclectic cast of characters, including the sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), Princess Ciri (Freya Allen), and the jovial bard Jaskier (Joey Batey).

The production of The Witcher season 2 was unfortunately plagued with numerous delays and lasted much longer than originally planned. These delays were mostly caused by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, with many crew members even testing positive, including newcomer Kristofer Hivju, known for playing Tormund Giantsbane on Game of Thrones. Cavill also suffered a hamstring injury that set the production schedule back a bit. But a few days ago, the exciting news broke that season 2 of The Witcher has wrapped filming.

Now, in a fun video posted to The Witcher Twitter account, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and her fellow executive producers announce they wrapped season 2 without actually saying they wrapped season 2. Hissrich goes first by deleting all her pre-set alarms since she no longer has to get up before dawn to start shooting. The video also provides a brief look at what appears to be a new indoor set fitted with tall pillars. Watch The Witcher EPs celebrate wrapping season 2 below:

With a release date for season 2 still to be announced, it will likely not be ready to air until later in the year or early next year considering filming just wrapped a few days ago. However, there should be plenty of other announcements and news to appease fans and fuel speculation in the meantime. It is widely believed that season 2 will be based on the third book in The Witcher saga, Blood of Elves, and chronicle Geralt and Ciri traveling to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen where Ciri will be trained as a witcher.

The Witcher is turning out to be one of Netflix's most lucrative properties. Multiple spinoffs are currently in development, including an animated prequel movie and a live-action prequel series. Although, fans are undoubtedly awaiting season 2 of The Witcher with the most anticipation.
