Netflix releases The Witcher season 2 teaser trailer. In late 2019, The Witcher season 1 premiered and introduced viewers to a new iteration of the property originally created by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski in his short stories and novels about a monster hunter living in a high fantasy world. Though popularized by The Witcher games from CD Projekt Red, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich returned to the novels to pull inspiration for the show, which stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia - the titular witcher. Season 1 followed not only Geralt but the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and the young Princess Ciri of Cintra (Freya Allen).

In The Witcher season 1 finale's ending, Geralt finally met Ciri, his Child of Surprise, while Yennefer mysteriously disappeared during a battle against Nilfgaardian Empire. The official teasers and plot details for The Witcher season 2 have teased further strife in the Continent, no doubt as Nilfgaard continues to wage war. Yennefer's whereabouts are still unknown. However, Geralt and Ciri will travel to Kaer Morhen, the witcher stronghold where Geralt was raised and trained to become a monster hunter. Season 2 is also expected to further explore Ciri's power that was teased in season 1. Now, the first official The Witcher season 2 trailer offers even more hints about what to expect.

During today's WitcherCon event hosted by Netflix and CD Projekt Red to tease both the upcoming TV show's sophomore outing and the game series' future, The Witcher season 2 trailer was unveiled. The trailer follows Geralt and Ciri as they travel together, and offers a tease of what's become of Yennefer. Watch the video below.

For it just being The Witcher season 2 teaser trailer, there's quite a lot revealed in this footage. Some of the clips seem to be from the season 2 premiere, "A Grain of Truth," which likely pulls from Sapkowski's story of the same name, since Geralt can be seen with the bandage around his leg from the wound he received in the season 1 finale. The moments of them bonding may also come from the premiere, since they'll have just met. Then the trailer also teases their arrival at Kaer Morhen, Geralt's reunion with the other witchers as well as their reactions to Ciri. Additionally, though his face isn't shown, Geralt's mentor Vesemir seems to appear in the trailer, watching as Geralt trains and then perhaps fighting back-to-back with Geralt. There's also a tease of Geralt's two swords, which he wields in the game, in the shot of Ciri approaching two blades on display. It may foretell an upgrade Geralt receives while at Kaer Morhen.

Beyond Geralt and Ciri, the footage also teases what happened to Yennefer after she disappeared during the Battle of Sodden Hill, revealing her to be with Fringilla, the Nilfgaardian sorceress. Though it's not explicitly shown in The Witcher season 2 teaser trailer, it's likely Yen is Fringilla's prisoner, given they're on opposite sides of the war. It's also unclear how Yen was captured - whether Fringilla used magic to apprehend Yennefer or if Yen's big use of magic in the battle sent her somewhere else, from which she was captured by Fringilla. Answers about Yennefer's fate and what's next for Geralt and Ciri will no doubt be revealed when season 2 releases.
