Netflix reveals The Witcher season 2 teaser trailer feature the very first footage. In 2019, The Witcher was renewed for season 2 before the show had even debuted on Netflix. But when it did release, it became one of the streamer's most popular shows, and their decision was proven justified. Like many shows, The Witcher paused production in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, The Witcher season 2 wrapped filming in early April and it has since been revealed by Netflix co-CEO and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos that the show will return in late 2021.

The exact plot of the next season is not yet known, but it's expected to continue following monster-hunting witcher Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Cintran Princess Ciri (Freya Allan) and the powerful sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra). Season 1 ended with Yennefer using a great deal of magic to battle Nilfgaard's army, disappearing in the process, and Ciri finally finding Geralt. While what became of Yennefer is still unclear, it's expected Geralt and Ciri's story will take them to Kaer Morhen, where he was trained to be a witcher. Further, The Witcher season 2 first look photos revealed Geralt will get new armor, Ciri will train with a sword and Yennefer will be in chains. Now, Netflix has revealed a new tease of The Witcher season 2.

Today, Netflix unveiled the first Witcher season 2 teaser trailer, focusing on the Lion Cub of Cintra: Ciri. Though much of the footage features quick shots of either Ciri or objects that seem to be key to her new adventure, the voice over features someone saying the word "Danger," another person yelling "No! Geralt!" Although there doesn't appear to be any footage of Geralt or Yennefer in the trailer, their stories no doubt intertwine with Ciri's. Check out The Witcher season 2 teaser trailer below.

Since this first look footage largely consists of quick flashes of scenes without context, little can be gleaned about what they mean for The Witcher season 2. That said, the teaser trailer does make it clear Ciri will try to unravel the mystery of her powers, her destiny, and what exactly that vision of the shining tree in season 1 meant. The Witcher teased Ciri's prophecy in season 1, but didn't offer very many answers, with Ciri's story instead focusing on her finding her way to Geralt. However, based on this teaser, it seems The Witcher season 2 will finally properly dive into the prophecy and what it means for Ciri's future.

As for Geralt and Yennefer, their stories aren't teased as much in this season 2 trailer. Still, there are shots of Ciri training with a sword and other weaponry that could hint at her learning how to fight from the witcher. There are also some creepy shots that could pertain to Yennefer's sorcery abilities, but perhaps not. With this particular video focusing on Ciri, it makes sense that Geralt would have more of a presence than Yennefer since the two have at least met. Though a meeting between Ciri and Yennefer was teased in the season 1 finale, it remains to be seen when that will occur. For now, those eager to learn more about The Witcher season 2 will have to wait for a longer trailer - which will potentially be revealed at WitcherCon on July 9.
