The Witcher's season 2 Nilfgaardian armor has been revealed in a new set photo. Last year, Netflix finally released their response to Game of Thrones with The Witcher, a fantasy series based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski and their video games. Netflix took a risk in renewing The Witcher for season 2 before the first even premiered, but it paid off when the show proved to be a hit with audiences. The Witcher primarily focuses on three main characters: monster hunter Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), and Princess Ciri (Freya Allen).

Despite a months-long delay caused by the coronavirus pandemic, filming on The Witcher season 2 is currently underway and has been since August. Already, fans have been granted new looks at Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer from the upcoming season, which only served to increase fan excitement. The official season 2 synopsis for The Witcher teases Geralt taking Ciri to the training castle Kaer Morhen, something fans have long wanted to see. It's all but guaranteed that Ciri will be trained there. After all, if she's going to defend herself from the Nilfgaardians, she'll need it, especially because they're arming themselves in new ways.

Fan site Redanian Intelligence caught sight of Eamon Farren (Nilfgaardian knight Cahir) on set while filming season 2, and they were quick to note that he's wearing brand new armor. There are several changes to spot, from the color to the shape of his breastplate. Surely, fans will be eager to pore over this new look. Additionally, the photo includes a glimpse of Nilfgaardian sorceress Fringilla (Mimi Ndiweni).

The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich revealed season 2 will dig deeper into both Cahir and Fringilla, as well as why they care so much about Nilfgaard. Season 1 established Nilfgaard as a war-hungry empire that seeks to conquer every kingdom it comes across, and it'll be interesting to learn more about some of its most prominent members. Between that and the lingering question of why Nilfgaard aims to capture Ciri, The Witcher has plenty more development to give its villains.

So far, The Witcher season 2 doesn't have a premiere date, but if production is able to continue without any further delays, fans can likely expect it to arrive on Netflix in late 2021. While this will mark two years since the first dropped, it will still be a relief to get more of The Witcher within the next year. Season 1 ended with some pretty tantalizing teases, from Geralt and Ciri's long-awaited meeting to the question of Yennefer's fate after the finale's epic battle. At least fans have these set photos to help make the wait a bit more bearable.
