The Witcher star Freya Allan has shared that Ciri will have a more significant, and more physical, role in the show’s upcoming season 2. The fantasy epic is one of Netflix’s most successful series ever, and season 2 comes highly anticipated. The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as the titular hero, known as Geralt of Rivia, alongside Allan as the young princess Ciri, and Anya Chalotra as the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg

The Witcher is based on the long-spanning series of novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Season 1 followed a non-linear story centered around Geralt and Ciri, and their adventures as they find themselves destined to come together, with Geralt taking the princess under his wing at the conclusion. Now that the characters have been united, The Witcher season 2 will seemingly be more traditional, ditching the (sometimes confusing) time-jumping mechanics in favor of a linear plot that more closely matches the books and Witcher video game. Cavill himself has teased that The Witcher season 2 will feature a more book-accurate Geralt.

Now, in an interview with HeyUGuys, Allan has shed some light on Ciri’s role in The Witcher season 2. Allan reflected on her character's portrayal in season 1, joking that she was mostly "running away through the woods." The actress also hints that Ciri will be seeing more action in season 2, saying that her role required her to do physical training. Check out her comments below:

"[In] season 1, [Ciri] was just running away through woods all the bloody time! And then in this season, I got given far more scenes - dialogue - to play with, not even just dialogue. Scenes with a lot to process, which was so much fun. Then also the physical element of training and everything so I’ve been waiting for this for a whole season, so, it was amazing."

Ciri will have a bigger role in The Witcher season 2.

Now that the show’s leads have been united after The Witcher season 1's conclusion, season 2 is set to explore the developing relationship between Geralt and Ciri. Fans will be excited at the prospect of Ciri’s expanded and, by the sounds of it, more fleshed out role in The Witcher season 2. Allan’s indication that the character will have some action scenes will also intrigue fans who are eager to see how her abilities have been shaped by Geralt’s training. The The Witcher season 2 will also expand Cavill’s role, with the actor previously saying that he's keen to impart some of his own personality and humor into the character.

Along with Game of Thrones, the series has been influential in rekindling TV audiences’ interest in fantasy TV. Other fantasy series that have been created in the wake of The Witcher’s success include Amazon’s The Wheel of Time, as well as a mega-budget Lord of the Rings series that is currently in development. Based on the huge success of The Witcher season 1, several new projects have been announced to run alongside the main series. So far it has already been given an animated spin-off film, and a second is already in the works. The Witcher will also have a prequel, which is currently in development, and a child-friendly series. Even after The Witcher season 2 airs later in December debuting the more fleshed-out and exciting Ciri, audiences will still have plenty to look forward to.
