Netflix unveils a new poster for The Witcher season 2 spotlighting Yennefer and teasing she is destined to survive in the medieval fantasy world. The quarter-elf sorceress from Andrzej Sapkowski's acclaimed novels of the same name is portrayed by Anya Chalotra for the Netflix series. Chalotra stars alongside Henry Cavill as Yennefer's romantic interest and monster hunter Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allen as Cintra princess Ciri, Eamon Farren as a Nilfgaardian commander hunting down Ciri and Joey Batey as Geralt's bard companion Jaskier.

The Witcher centers on Geralt as he travels across the medieval landscape known as the Continent hunting monsters for profit and ultimately learning of his destiny to protect Ciri. Season 2 sees Geralt bringing Ciri to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen, still heartbroken over seemingly losing Yennefer at the Battle of Sodden and finding he must defend the various enemies coming for Ciri outside the city's walls as well as her burgeoning powers. Fans have been eager for The Witcher season 2's arrival since the series premiered in late 2019 and now Netflix is building anticipation for its return this December.

Those who have avoided trailers for The Witcher season 2 will have last seen Yennefer in the explosive season 1 finale in which she seemingly sacrificed her life to defend Sodden Hill from the invading Nilfgaardian forces. The first images and trailer for the next chapter of the series have confirmed the sorceress' return and teased her journey of having been captured by rival Fringilla, who is working with Nilfgaard. The new poster for The Witcher season 2 may not offer much in the way of further details on her arc in the new season but it certainly offers a good first glimpse at what can be expected.

Sapkowski's The Witcher novels and CD Projekt Red's game adaptations have seen Yennefer and Geralt's destinies closely linked together, with the sorceress even becoming a mother figure to Ciri. While Yennefer is seemingly in captivity at the start of the new season, Ciri's questioning of who Yennefer is in the season 1 finale certainly establishes the possibility of keeping this character dynamic intact heading into the new season or season 3 as recently confirmed by Netflix. Only time will tell what the future holds for Yennefer when The Witcher season 2 premieres on December 17.
