Netflix releases a new image from The Witcher season 2, revealing the first look at a new witcher, Lambert. The fantasy series based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels and short stories has become a bigger hit than the streamer likely could have imagined, inspiring two spinoffs in the live-action prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, and the animated film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, both of which are currently in development. But right now, all eyes are on the mainline series.

Premiering in December 2019, The Witcher quickly caught on as one of Netflix’s most popular original series. Like the books and games that came before it, the show follows its titular witcher, Geralt of Rivia, played by Henry Cavill. Like others of his kind, Geralt was once a normal human being who was mutated by a mixture of medieval science and magic at a young age, granting his superhuman strength and abilities. With Cavill’s fan-favorite character at its core, The Witcher also thrives due to its eclectic cast of supporting characters in Jaskier (Joey Batey), Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and Princess Ciri (Freya Allan).

Now, as a part of WitcherCon, Netflix is unveiling a ton of new information and content related to the show, including the first look at a new character from season 2, a witcher named Lambert. The official Witcher Twitter account revealed the image of the new character played by Paul Bullion, which shows him next to Ciri, yet the caption teases that their expected roles may be reserved. Check out the first look at Lambert below:

WitcherCon began on July 9 and so far, it is already delivering in big ways. Season 2’s release date (December 17) has been announced, along with the titles of each episode (excluding the season finale). Other first looks include a sneak peek at Jaskier’s makeover for the upcoming season. This was all revealed on the first day of WitcherCon, so one has to wonder what other surprises Netflix has in store.

Based on many factors, such as promotional material (and the source material), it appears season 2 will take Ciri and Geralt to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen to train her as a witcher. There, they will meet up with Lambert who appears to be assisting in her training. There is still a lot more promotional material for The Witcher yet to be released which will surely hint at Lambert’s role in season 2.
