The Witcher season 2 needs to reveal Geralt's biggest Witcher secret. Season 1 of the popular Netflix show was one of the streaming services' most anticipated releases of the year, and season 2 hopes to build on that success. However, in order to live up to its potential, The Witcher needs to address something that the show has avoided until now.

Based on a book series written by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher follows the adventures of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), and Princess Ciri (Freya Allan), who eventually connects with Geralt at the end of season 1 in order to fulfill her destiny. As Geralt travels throughout the land in search of payment for killing dangerous monsters, he occasionally relies on a "Witcher's Code" when choosing which jobs to accept. Mostly, he uses this code in order to get out of working for free, as a "code" is often more readily accepted by strangers than just saying no, but the truth behind this code was one of Geralt's most closely guarded secrets.

In The Witcher book series, Geralt explains that the Witcher Code does not actually exist and is just his personal way to avoid missions he doesn't want to take on, usually for moral reasons. The Witcher season 2 is the perfect chance to address this, not only because Geralt will be mentoring Ciri, but also because Geralt's old mentor Vesemir (Kim Bodnia) will be helping out. Vesemir was shown in the Road to Season 2 trailer when Geralt and Ciri arrived at the Witcher stronghold of Kaer Morhen, and will probably take an active role in helping Geralt train Ciri. Previously appearing in Netflix's animated The Witcher: The Nightmare of the Wolf, Vesemir was one of the only survivors of an attack on the stronghold, which put him in charge of training the next generation of Witchers, including Geralt.

Ciri in The Witcher Season 2

Just as Vesemir was a father figure to Geralt, Geralt will in turn become something of a father figure to young Ciri in The Witcher season 2. The first season built up to their eventual meeting after Ciri's homeland was attacked and the young princess was forced to flee in search of him. With strengthening powers that she doesn't understand, Ciri needs someone familiar with magic to teach her how to control her abilities. Although her power seems much stronger than the typical magic user, Geralt's knowledge and experience will prove useful while guiding her in The Witcher season 2. He and Vesemir will likely work together to mentor Ciri, sharing Witcher secrets that may include the truth behind Geralt's code.

The Witcher season 2 is the perfect opportunity for Geralt to confess his secret about the Witcher's Code. Although the Code itself may not be entirely real, Geralt does try to live by a set of certain principles. Along with refusing to work for free, he avoids killing any intelligent creature that isn't hurting others. This Code will definitely be something Geralt teaches to Ciri, but whether or not he reveals its origins remains to be seen.
