A new BTS video highlights The Witcher season 2's "monster mash" finale. The Witcher season 2 debuted in December and has been a tremendous success for Netflix, amassing 404 million hours of watch time thus far on the streamer. A third season has already been greenlit, with a spinoff prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, set to debut sometime in 2022.

The Witcher is based on the fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, which initially began as a series of short stories. It follows a Witcher named Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), linked by destiny to Princess Ciri of Cintra (Freya Allan), thus becoming her mentor and protector in a fantasy world full of magic, creatures, political upheaval, and blood battles galore. The Witcher was initially adapted in Poland in 2002, called The Hexer, which ran for 13 episodes.

In a new behind-the-scenes video from Netflix, the finale of The Witcher season 2 is highlighted, showing Cavill's Geralt, along with his fellow Witcher's at their keep, Kaer Morhen, fighting off a possessed Ciri. In the final scene, Ciri summons a trio of basilisks to battle The Witcher's, taking out a number of them in a violent, bloody manner before being stopped by Geralt and his crew, along with the sorceress Yennifer (Anya Chalotra). The video highlights the making of the sequence, showing the cast and crew enjoying the process while weathering the challenges of putting the "monster mash" together. Take a look at the video below:

As the very concept of The Witcher deals with monsters, there are plenty to be seen and fought in The Witcher season 2. The basilisk is well-known in the world of The Witcher, from the books to the games, featured sporadically throughout. They are known for their bird-like appearance and acid-for-blood, which plays prominently in the final battle sequence, showing that the show has taken great care to adapt the creature (as well as the others that appear in season 2) faithfully.

The characters of The Witcher make the show the most compelling (as well as the performances by the actors inhabiting them), but the monsters are equally as exciting when they appear. The showrunners have taken great pains to bring a diverse amount of monsters into the show, paying tribute to the very thing that makes the world of The Witcher as fascinating as it is next to the characters. The Witcher season 2 definitely goes bigger and better, applying practical and CGI effects together to make for some of the coolest, creepiest, and most detailed monsters seen on TV today.
