The Witcher TV Show Casts Anna Shaffer As Triss Merigold

The Witcher - Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold

Netflix's The Witcher TV show has cast Anna Shaffer (Harry Potter) as Triss Merigold, a talented witch who is both an ally and love interest for Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill). A full cast list for the TV show was revealed alongside a first look at Cavill in costume - including a luxurious silver wig - as Geralt.

Born in London, Shaffer played the infatuated Romilda Vane, who kept trying to slip Harry love potions, in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, reprising the rise in The Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2. She also has a long-running role in the British soap opera Hollyoaks, and appeared in the Doctor Who spinoff series Class.

Triss and Geralt in The Witcher

The Witcher TV show was created by Lauren S. Hissrich, whose previous work includes Netflix's Marvel series Daredevil and The Defenders. The show is based on a series of novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, though the franchise is better known by the critically-acclaimed series of video games developed by CD Projekt RED. Cavill's character, Geralt, is a Witcher - a warrior put through gruelling training from childhood and genetically modified for one purpose: to hunt and kill monsters. Geralt famously carries two swords on his back: a silver sword for monsters, and a steel sword for people.

Triss is one of the most prominent supporting characters in the games. Skilled in the art of magic-wielding, Triss co-founded a secret cabal of magic users called the Lodge of Sorceresses, and is a key figure in the politics of the Continent - the fictional magical world where The Witcher is set. It will be interesting to see Shaffer's take on the fan-favorite character when The Witcher arrives on Netflix next year.
