Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt of Rivia in CD Projekt RED's The Witcher series, has confirmed he will not be making a cameo appearance in Cyberpunk 2077. This doesn't come as too much of a surprise, but fans of The Witcher were hoping to get at least a tease of Geralt in Night City.

In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Ciri, aka The Lady of Space and Time, tells Geralt she travelled to a whole host of strange worlds and time periods. She reveals that one stop on her trip landed her in a time wherein people walked around with metal devices in their heads. Geralt assumes Ciri's joking, but fans aware of CD Projekt RED's next RPG at the time knew full well what she meant. Ciri had strolled through the streets of Cyberpunk 2077's Night City, leading many to believe such an Easter Egg also suggested a Witcher tease of some sort would crop up in the sci-fi title. At the very least, it's clear an appearance by Geralt is not on the cards, despite Doug Cockle once stating he'd be all for it.

Eurogamer recently reached out to Cockle, asking if he ever heard back from CD Projekt about a Geralt cameo in Cyberpunk 2077. Unfortunately, the actor divulged such a conversation never took place. Cockle told the publication, "sadly, I haven't had any involvement with Cyberpunk, thus far. It was mentioned long ago, but [CDPR] hasn't brought me in for anything. I'm kinda sad about it actually!" He continued, "Oh, well. Maybe in the future..."

Cyberpunk 2077 Witcher 3

This most certainly seems like a missed opportunity, especially since fans have already spotted one Witcher-related Easter Egg in the studio's next title. Following the release of a trailer this past summer, eagle-eyed viewers took note of a car named "Aerondight" listed in an in-game magazine. Interestingly, Aerondight is the name of a sword that players can find across all three mainline installments in The Witcher games.

But Geralt's absence in Cyberpunk 2077 does not necessarily mean the world of The Witcher is being completely ignored. Whether or not Ciri herself will appear still remains to be seen. If she, too, fails to pop up in any capacity, though, fans still have another Witcher adventure to look forward to. Once Cyberpunk 2077 hits stores, CD Projekt plans to begin work on the fantasy series' next outing.
