A next-gen upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has finally received a release date, and is slated to hit the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC later this year. The original game released to massive critical acclaim in 2015, and developer CD Projekt Red initially promised an update for next-generation hardware in 2020. Unfortunately, various factors, like production shifting from being handled by Saber Interactive to in-house at CDPR, have repeatedly delayed its release.

Players can look forward to playing The Witcher 3 again soon, as a new press release has finally given The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition a concrete release date of December 14, when it will come to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Players who already own a copy of the game for PS4, Xbox One, or PC will receive the upgrade for free, and last-gen versions of the game will receive a similar update with new content at a later date. More information about the new release will be covered in an upcoming REDstreams event on Twitch, where developers will show off the Complete Edition's next-generation gameplay.

The next-gen release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt provides a slew of new improvements and additional content to players. The updated version will feature ray-tracing, faster loading times, and the integration of several mods into the game. The already lengthy title will take an even longer time to beat with The Witcher 3 DLC, all of which is included in the next-gen version. There will also be never-before-seen new content for the game inspired by The Witcher Netflix series. A physical release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is planned, with a date to be announced soon.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition contains an impressive amount of content and improvements which will surely entice many fans of the game to return to it for another playthrough. It's taken a long time for this updated version to come to fruition, but it seems as though it'll be worth the wait to have a release that takes full advantage of the newer hardware. This goes double for a game like The Witcher 3 (which already looked great to begin with), so the extra time taken to make the game even more visually impressive will hopefully be worthwhile.

When The Witcher 3's upgrades were delayed indefinitely, many fans may have lost hope of ever seeing a new version of the beloved game. Developer CD Projekt Red doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to delays, considering how long releases like Cyberpunk 2077 have taken, so it wasn't out of the question that this new version of The Witcher 3 wouldn't see the light of day for years. However, with a firm release date now set, fans can let themselves get excited about taking advantage of everything The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition has to offer when it releases December 14.
