Several leaks suggest that the vast open world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt RPG will arrive soon on the Nintendo Switch. In Japan, the Switch recently surpassed PlayStation 4 sales. That means that Switch owners have started to demand more titles, including those that are also available on other systems.

The Switch initially launched in 2017 with its RPG The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but has seen some other big releases recently, most notably Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the fastest-selling Nintendo game of all time. Although Nintendo continues to release exclusive titles for the Switch, including the upcoming Pokemon Sword & Shield, games from PC and other consoles are getting ported over to Nintendo's system, too, including The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

So maybe it isn't a big surprise that new leaks suggest that The Witcher 3 is getting ported over to the Switch. According to ResetEra, product listings for the title began turning up recently in Asia for several online retail sites, along with the Nintendo Switch logo. And although that isn't much to go on to confirm the port, it's important to reiterate that this isn't just one retail outlet posting the listing on its site: several different stores have it listed as an upcoming release on the Switch.

The Witcher 3 Nintendo Switch

The Witcher 3 would probably be one of the most spec-intensive games to arrive on Nintendo's system. It is likely that a port would probably see a downgrade in graphics from PC and other consoles. However, the idea of being able to play The Witcher 3 on the Switch, particularly in handheld mode, certainly has its appeal, especially considering that the game remains popular four years after its initial release. Interest in the title will remain strong, too, especially with The Witcher TV series in development at Netflix, so Switch players would likely love to get their hands on the game to play on their favorite system. A Switch port would also mark the first time The Witcher 3 was available as a portable title, which could hit on a new demographic.

Although The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red seems solely focused on Cyberpunk 2077, the studio did state that its presence at E3 2019 would be one of the biggest E3 appearances ever for the studio. At E3, fans will undoubtedly get more details on Cyberpunk 2077, potentially the developer's next big franchise, but the studio could have some surprise announcements in the works, too. The Witcher 3 arriving on the Switch would surprise fans, but it would also please Nintendo enthusiasts who haven't yet played the game or want to play it again on a different system.
