The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was a popular game on release, holding the record for the best-selling game of the year it was released, 2015, in the UK. Even before it officially came out, it had over 1.5 million pre-orders. Since then, the game has not been forgotten, with many gamers still having fun playing through it, and many dedicated modders still working to make the game better. One modder with a passion for making the game look superb has created a mod that makes the game's animals look far more real.

The Witcher 3 already looks stunning without mods, even for a 5 year old game, but that hasn't stopped some of its fans from going the extra mile and making some pretty amazing mods. In September of last year a graphics mod was released that had been in development for 5 years. It improves all of the game's textures, changing even the tiniest details like fabric stitching. There have also been some less serious mods released over the years, and some of the weirdest mods of 2020 include swapping out Geralt's face with the face of other NPCs, and giving all the geese festive Christmas hats.

Made by modder Denroth, the 1GB mod for the game improves on all the textures of all the animals to be found in-game. Dark Side Of Gaming says that this mod can be downloaded as HD - Animals Reworked from Nexus Mods, and that this is not the first mod to be released by Denroth. They have released other HD texture packs for the game that improve the visuals of the horses, the monsters and, with hints of appreciation and dismay, the women. Since Denroth's mod for animals changes only the animals alone, it can be used in conjunction with almost any other mod without difficulty.

It is often thanks to the fans that games stay up to date and are continuously improved upon. There is a fan-made Fallout 4 mod that is bigger than official DLCs to the game. This mod invites players to explore the nuclear winter wonderland of Northern Springs, an area that holds over 25 quests for players to dig their snow pushers into. Some Portal fans have taken it into their own hands to make a third game completely through mods for Portal 2. The mod will be tied to the Portal universe, but will tell its own original story and will feature many unique test chambers for players to rack their brains on.

The HD - Animal Reworked mod is great for players who enjoy the details of a game. It may not overhaul all the graphics in the game, but it makes The Witcher 3 just that much more immersive to see a visually convincing animal innocently strolling through the village. The smooth textures just make players want to pet them; even the bear looks worthy of a pet or a hug. Players will have to fight the impulse to run their fingers through that silky soft fur.
