Here’s every possible ending in The Witcher 3: Hearts Of Stone and how to get them. Released in 2015 by CD Projekt, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the follow up to 2011’s The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings. The game sees the return of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia and follows him as he searches for his missing adoptive daughter Ciri, who is on the run from the Wild Hunt – an other-worldly force hellbent on capturing her and using her supernatural powers for its own ends. Featuring 36 possible endings, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was hailed by some critics as the most ambitious RPG to date and scooped a host of accolades, including Game of the Year at both the Golden Joysticks and the Game Awards.

Hearts Of Stone was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s first expansion and offered gamers around 10 extra hours of gameplay. The expansion sees Geralt meet with Gaunter O’Dimm – first seen in the main game’s “Lilac and Gooseberries” quest – and a new character named Olgierd von Everec. Geralt strikes up a deal with O’Dimm to fulfill three seemingly impossible wishes set by Olgierd so that O’Dimm can collect his soul as part of a pact made between the pair years previously.

At the end of the expansion’s final main quest “Whatsoever a Man Soweth,” Geralt is faced with two choices – he can either save Olgierd’s soul from O’Dimm’s evil clutches or let him die, which are colloquially known in The Witcher 3 fandom as the “good” and “bad” endings respectively. Here are both of the Hearts Of Stone endings explained and how to get to them.

Good Ending: Save Olgierd

To opt for The Witcher 3: Hearts Of Stone good ending, players have to complete a side quest in “Whatsoever a Man Soweth” that involves Geralt choosing to meet with his old pal Shani. She, in turn, suggests he meet with Professor Premethine Shakeslock who gives Geralt some smart advice about defeating O’Dimm.

If players, as Geralt, choose to save Olgierd’s soul they will have to complete a timed challenge that involves solving a riddle set by O’Dimm. If the riddle is solved, O’Dimm’s curse over Olgierd is broken. However, if players fail the challenge, O’Dimm gets to keep both Olgierd and Geralt’s souls.

Bad Ending: Let Olgierd Die

By opting not to save Olgierd or failing to meet with Shani and Shakeslock, players can choose The Witcher 3: Hearts Of Stone ending in which Olgierd dies. After letting O’Dimm take Olgierd’s soul, Geralt can choose from one of the following boons:

  • Be as swift as the wind with the Caparison of Lament horse saddle
  • Never go hungry again with the Horn of Plenty which provides an endless supply of food
  • A bottomless carafe of vodka
  • 5000 crowns
  • Advice on finding Ciri
  • Refuse O’Dimm’s rewards and receive more experience
