A sequel to the upcoming slasher film Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey is officially announced, with the title revealed as Winnie-the-Pooh 2. Featuring iconic characters Pooh and Piglet envisioned as slasher villains, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey sees the pair terrorizing a group of friends who rent a cabin in the Hundred Acre Wood. The story is built around a darker take on Winnie-the-Pooh, with Pooh and Piglet having been forced to eat Eeyore after Christopher Robin stops visiting them and giving them food. Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey is already in theaters in Mexico, with a US release slated for February 15.Despite only being released in one territory so far, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey's officially Twitter page announced that a sequel, titled Winnie-the-Pooh 2, is currently in the works.

While there is no information yet on what Winnie-the-Pooh 2 will entail, it's safe to say that Pooh and Piglet will return as slasher villains, continuing to kill people who encroach on their home in the Hundred Acre Wood. With a tagline like, "More blood. More honey," it appears the sequel will be increasing the level of slasher terror Pooh enacts on the film's human fodder.

Why Was A Winnie-The-Pooh Sequel Confirmed Before The First Film's Full Release?

Given Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey's shocking premise, it's no surprise that a sequel has already been confirmed. The idea of iconic children's books and cartoon characters, such as Pooh and Piglet, murdering young people in the woods is both terrifying and a twisted difference from the affectionate characters they usually are. However, due to A.A. Milne's original Winnie-the-Pooh character now being situated in the public domain, creators like writer-director Rhys Frake-Waterfield can legally make Winnie-the-Pooh characters into terrifying slasher villains.

Because of how jarring it is for Pooh and Piglet to be terrorizing teens, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey has received media recognition for these horror elements. With the film set to also explore how Pooh and Piglet deal with Christopher Robbin following his return to the Hundred Acre Wood, it's likely that even more unforeseen bloodshed will accentuate the film. Since a premise like this is uniquely intriguing to people who both enjoy the idea and may be put off by it, it's no surprise a sequel is already in the works, building off its foundation. Characters beyond Pooh and Piglet do not have prominent roles in the first film, making it likely that Winnie-the-Pooh 2 will add even more terrifying versions of Pooh's friends to its cast.

By creating a world where Pooh and Piglet are the villains, Frake-Waterfield turns the original Winnie-the-Pooh story on its head, doing so to create a different type of film with familiar characters. While it's unclear yet whether the idea will pay off or not, the fact that the film has remained talked about in horror circles in the months leading up to its release means its success is viable. Twisting a beloved, heartwarming icon into something terrifying may also help add a new perspective on Pooh into the public consciousness. Now that a sequel to Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey is officially in the works, there's no telling just how deep the horror of the Hundred Acre Wood will go.
