The CW releases the first trailer for the Supernatural spinoff The Winchesters and it's narrated by Jensen Ackles' Dean Winchester from the original show. The Winchesters is set to release in the fall and will serve as a prequel to Supernatural. Supernatural is a dark fantasy series that follows brothers Dean and Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) as they hunt down otherwordly beings. The series ended in 2020 after a 15-season run and The Winchesters was confirmed in June of 2021. Ackles and his wife, Danneel Ackles, are executive producers of the series.

In addition to producing, Ackles serves as the show's narrator. The series focuses on the adventures of Dean and Sam's parents, Mary (Meg Donnelly) and John (Drake Rodger). The show will see Mary and John hunting spirits in much the same manner as Dean and Sam. It is still unclear how the show plans to address its continuity issues with Supernatural. In Supernatural, John didn't know about Mary's supernatural hunting until after she passed. While it's an unknown how, or if, The Winchesters will address this, the trailer clearly shows them monster-hunting together.

The CW Network just released The Winchesters trailer and it sees Dean setting out to uncover the mystery of his parents' past. In order to better understand his parents, he will have to dig all the way back to 1972. As time begins to rewind, viewers see John and Mary's first meeting when Mary saves John from a demon. This fateful event propels them into the dangerous world of supernatural hunting. Check out the trailer below:

The trailer is exciting as it gave viewers the first look at Ackles' return as Dean. Dean was one of the central figures in Supernatural and it gives The Winchesters a boost to feature him as the narrator. Meanwhile, the trailer also gave viewers a first look at John's mother, Millie (Bianca Kajlich), and the friends that join John and Mary find on their adventures. It makes it pretty clear that The Winchesters will have a wholly different feel to it than Supernatural. This is a story that viewers had never heard before and creates a new history for John and Mary, quite different from the one in Supernatural. Whether this story will prove better than what viewers were able to piece together about the couple from Supernatural remains to be seen.

The Winchesters shows potential, though, as it was the only one in a long list of planned Supernatural spinoffs to actually be greenlit. Numerous spinoffs were previously attempted and ultimately failed. Now, The Winchesters is truly becoming a reality with its official trailer and fall release date. Of course, the trailer does cause the continuity issue to rear its head again. Dean is deceased at the end of Supernatural, so it is unclear how he is narrating or when he found time to delve into his parents' history. It's also strange for him to apparently not know their history when it was never very mysterious before. Still, the trailer only gives a glimpse of The Winchesters and there's no telling how many explanations and surprises the season has in store.
