New images from the Willow sequel show reveal Queen Sorsha's new look. The upcoming Disney+ television series will be a sequel to the 1988 cult classic fantasy-adventure film of the same name. Warwick Davis starred as the titular character, a Nelwyn dwarf who aspired to be a powerful sorcerer. Following the birth of the prophesied baby destined to defeat the evil Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh), the child is whisked away and serendipitously washes ashore near a Nelwyn village. With dark forces baring down on them, Willow embarks on a dangerous journey to return the child to its people.
Joanne Whalley stars as Princess Sorsha, the daughter of the evil Queen Bavmorda, and charged with tracking down and killing the baby. A great warrior, she is ruthless in her pursuit, however, upon meeting the dashing Madmartigan (Val Kilmer) -- a man accidentally stricken with a magic love spell -- she becomes taken with him. Seeing Madmartigan nearly single-handedly take on her army, fighting for something noble, Sorsha allies herself with the warrior. Following the Queen's defeat, Sorsha and Madmartigan adopt the child and decide to live in Tir Asleen.
EW recently shared new images from the upcoming Willow sequel series which reveal Queen Sorsha's new look. Sorsha appears regal in the first image as she stands before her royal guard. However, the second image features the Queen dressed in gold and seated alongside Ralph Ineson as Commander Ballantine, Talisa Garcia as Queen Arianna, Derek Horsham as King Hastur, and Tony Revolori as Graydon. Check out the images below.
The new images show Sorsha fully embracing her duties as Queen. She appears to be receiving King Hastur, Queen Arianna, and Graydon into her castle with the royal guard and celebrating their company with a feast. However, the purpose of the royal family's purpose in Tir Asleen remains unknown.
Missing from the new images is Madmartigan, Sorsha's husband. Willow executive producer, Jonathan Kasdan, previously explained that Madmartigan will be a part of the story in some way, although Kilmer was unable to film any scenes for season 1. Details regarding how Madmartigan will feature in the show has been kept under wraps. It is possible that his role will be reduced due to his struggle with throat cancer, similar to how his role as Iceman was quite minimal in Top Gun: Maverick. With no additional seat at the table during the feast, it is unlikely that Sorsha has remarried. Regardless, Sorsha appears quite capable running her kingdom by herself, although she must seek the assistance of the Nelwyn dwarf to find her kidnaped son when Willow returns November 30.
