Amazon's Prime Video confirms the production of the new documentary special, Shatner in Space. The upcoming special will reportedly be one hour in length and document the Blue Origin space flight which occurred on October 12. William Shatner, who portrayed the iconic character of James T. Kirk in Star Trek, crewed Blue Origin’s New Shepard NS-18 vessel along with three others. While his selection for the trip was largely credited to his reputation within the sci-fi franchise, Shatner later praised the experience as something “everyone needs to see.

Now, Prime Video has confirmed the impending release of the documentary following the voyage. The post includes a promotional image of Shatner wearing his recent space-flight jumpsuit, alongside an older picture of himself in full Captain Kirk regalia. While teasing Shatner’s prior connection to space travel, the post reveals that the special will debut on December 15. Check out the original post below:

Other Blue Origin crew members aboard the October 12 flight included Chris Boshuizen, Audrey Powers, and Glen de Vries. Upon the successful completion of the journey, Shatner officially became the oldest person to journey into space. The 90-year-old also confirmed news of the special himself during a Comic-Con Experience panel. As well as providing a detailed record of the historic launch and the events leading up to and after it, Shatner in Space will hope to demonstrate the future necessity of space travel. Viewers will get the chance to watch the immortalised voyage through Amazon's Prime Video on December 15.
