Will Wright Wants YOU to Choose What Happens In 'Bar Karma'

Will Wright's Bar Karma

Will Wright, the genius creator of SimCity, Spore and The Sims, is bringing his familiar method of user-based control to the television screen in Current TV’s new series Bar Karma.

Collaborating with two-time Academy Award nominee Albie Hecht, these two entertainment powerhouses are attempting to grant the wish of television fans around the world, by allowing viewers to control every aspect of a television series.

Set in the mystical Bar Karma, this fantastical tavern travels through time and space, in search of lost souls who have come to a crossroads in their life - and need more than just a watered-down shot of liquor. Using glimpses at the past, present and future(s) of each selected patron, Bar Karma will attempt to guide each protagonist through the toughest moments in their life.

Of course, that is just the general plot. After that, Will Wright and Albie Hecht are relying on you, the viewer, to help develop each individual element of Bar Karma. From story development, to wardrobe, music and even marketing - the control has been placed in your hands.

Using Will Wright’s new StoryMaker Engine, viewers will be able to contribute ideas, complete challenges, and vote on the direction of television’s first community developed series. Unfortunately, there can be no community developed series without an actual community. So, Will Wright decided to send over a video specifically to help get our readers involved in this series.

Whether or not you’re a fan of the community-based development mechanic, the core plot of Bar Karma is extremely intriguing. With a little hint of Doctor Who, Quantum Leap, The Twilight Zone and Cheers, it sounds like Wright and Hecht are not only creating a wonderful platform for a great series, but are also attempting to change the way television is made.
