Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Avatar: The Way of WaterWhile Miles "Spider" Socorro (Jack Champion) is the only human member of the Sully Family in Avatar: The Way of Water, it's possible he could become a Na'vi in Avatar 3. Having been raised by the Omatikaya clan as well as the few humans who stayed on Pandora after the events of the first Avatar film, Spider is Na'vi in everything but his physical form. However, being human is still a key difference, creating tension that will likely continue heading into Avatar 3.

Just as Jake Sully permanently transitioned his mind from his original human body to his Na'vi avatar at the end of the first Avatar, Spider might also desire to become Na'vi as well. This could be a very appealing path for Spider's future, especially after he's confronted a version of his biological father, Miles Quaritch, in Avatar: The Way of Water. Here are the key reasons why Spider may want to become Na'vi and whether it's even a possibility for the adopted son of the Sully Family.

Why Spider May Want To Become A Na'vi In Avatar 3Spider firing an arrow in Avatar The Way of Water

Following the events of Avatar: The Way of Water, Spider wanting to become Na'vi would make sense. Having a journey that's largely separate from Jake and Neytiri's kids, Spider was kidnaped by the RDA's recombinant avatar holding the memories and personality of the deceased Quaritch, his biological father. While this gave Spider a chance to interact with a version of his father, he still chose the Sully family after seeing Quaritch's cruelty. That being said, he does save Quaritch's life after the RDA colonel refused to let Spider die at Neytiri's hand, who had threatened to kill the human boy if Quaritch had hurt Kiri in Avatar: The Way of Water.

Beyond the clear struggle for identity, a large motivation for Spider going full Na’vi would be the increased tensions with Neytiri. With her firstborn son Neyteyam dying trying to save Spider, Neytiri will likely hold resentment and perhaps even hatred towards him in Avatar 3, having already shown Spider great indifference as opposed to the rest of the Sully Family. She believes he should be with his own kind as a human.

While Neytiri can love and accept Jake who was a human, he's now a full Na'vi. Currently, Spider is not, and the baggage of Quaritch and Neteyam's death won't help their relationship in the slightest. Although Jake has seemingly accepted Spider as his adopted son, it is possible that Spider will want to become Na’vi in a desperate attempt to be fully accepted by the entire Sully Family while also rejecting his true parentage at the same time.

Could Spider Actually Become A Na'vi In Avatar 3? How It Can Happen

Spider becoming Na'vi would likely be the same process Jake Sully went through in the first Avatar: linking his consciousness to an avatar body followed by a permanent transfer via one of the Trees of Eywa. That being said, an avatar body using Spider's DNA would need to be created, and it takes around 5-6 years for one to be fully grown. It's possible that the human scientists such as Norm and Max who stayed on the world of Pandora and helped raise Spider might have created an avatar for Spider off-screen. There could also be a time jump between films with a body grown in the interim.

Another option would be much darker, one where a rift forms between Spider and the Sullys, and he's offered a recom body from Quaritch and the RDA (provided he rejoins the new version of his father). This would also continue his identity struggle in a very compelling direction. Either way, becoming Na'vi certainly feels like a leading motivation for Spider heading into Avatar 3 and beyond.
