Wrestling fans can now recreate the infamous altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock using custom-made grapplers in WWE 2K22. Easily one of the most shocking and talked about moments from this week's Oscars 2022 presentation was when Will Smith suddenly walked on stage and slapped presenter Chris Rock in the face for making a joke seemingly aimed at his wife Jada Picket-Smith's alopecia.
Footage of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars went viral almost immediately after it happened, with plenty of memes making light of it filling the internet in the past couple of days. These include references to popular video games like Elden Ring and Fortnite - this last one being especially humorous due to Will Smith being a special guest Fortnite skin as Michael Lowrey, his character from the Bad Boys movies. With the situation surrounding Will Smith and Chris Rock being tied to physical violence, it would only be a matter of time before a few of these gaming fans decided to try and settle the feud between these two stars in a wrestling game, particularly the recently released WWE 2K22.
According to Game Rant, there has been an increase of custom-made wrestlers modeled after Will Smith and Chris Rock in the wake of the slapping incident at Sunday’s Oscars award show, all of which are currently available to download from WWE 2K22’s Community Creations menu. Given that Will Smith is well-known for several action films like Men In Black, Wild Wild West, and the aforementioned Bad Boys, there were plenty of user-generated models of him to choose from even before the Oscars, but TalentedKamarty’s tuxedo-clad Will Smith is the one that most resembles his look from the awards ceremony. Chris Rock, on the other hand, didn’t seem to inspire many custom WWE 2K22 wrestlers before the altercation on Sunday, but there has since been an increase of characters made in his image since. One player even put together a custom Oscars 2022 arena in which to properly hold any virtual rematches between Will Smith and Chris Rock in WWE 2K22.
Players have used WWE 2K22’s wide range of character creation tools to enact plenty of humorous match-ups, ranging from the silver-screen battle between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin from Spider-Man: No Way Home to the real-life quarrel between Kanye West and Pete Davidson. WWE 2K22 also has quite a few official guest appearances among its roster, with future WWE 2K22 DLC plans including celebrities like Machine Gun Kelly, Logan Paul, and Mr. T.
While these plans likely won’t feature playable versions of Will Smith or Chris Rock, it seems that WWE 2K22’s player base has already conjured up several custom versions of these two Hollywood figures in the wake of their surprisingly violent encounter at this week’s Oscars presentation. Hopefully, there won’t be any further incidents between the real Will Smith and Chris Rock, but gaming fans can imagine a rematch between the two in the virtual squared circle of WWE 2K22.
