Spies in Disguise is the current project that both Will Smith and Tom Holland have been signed onto. Will Smith, of course, is best known for his roles in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Men in Black, and Suicide Squad. While a newer member of Hollywood's elite, Tom Holland isn't someone to be ignored. You might recognize him best from Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Lost City of Z. Now, the two are coming together to work on a brand new animated feature film.

Based on the short film, Pigeon: Impossible, the new animated feature length film will have similar ties to its source material. For those not in the know, Pigeon: Impossible is about a pigeon who somehow gets stuck in a nuclear briefcase, and things just get worse from there. The new feature film should bring a lot more to the table when it comes to both details and storytelling.

An exclusive from Variety has revealed that both Will Smith and Tom Holland will lend their voices over to the film. It will be produced by 20th Century Fox's Animation department, with the movie currently scheduled to hit theaters in January 2019. The Peanuts Movie helmsman Nick Bruno will call the shots. Spies in Disguise is part of Fox's ongoing initiative to increase their animation output under new CEO Stacey Snider.

Screen Rant attended a Fox slate event in London where more details were offered. In the Spies in Disguise, Smith will play Lance Sterling, a cocky super spy who is turned into a pigeon by Holland's inventor Walter Beckett (who has a whole host of cool gadgets). The pair team up with a gang of real pigeons and group of techies to try and stop a Bondian villain in an adventure described as "21 Jump Street meets Skyfall" by the filmmakers.

We were also shown footage from the movie, illustrating the two lead characters. A clip starring Smith depicted his character on a sting operation where he sets up gadget cameras to record his various antics. While fighting villains (that all know his name), Smith's sleuth uses lobsters and alcohol as weapons. The one focusing on Holland using parkour to escape the clutches of Yakuza enemies, while using a gadget to calculate his jumps. He fails and is flung from a building, becoming trapped outside an elevator by grappling hook. Holland's character then falls through a restaurant and lands in a palm tree. Smith remarks that Holland can take a beating, to which the youngster quips he learned how to in middle school.

While Spies in Disguise might end up being great (and the filmmakers said to Screen Rant they hope it to be a jumping off point for a franchise), Fox is often behind the likes of Disney/Pixar and other top tier competitors. The quality of Spies in Disguise might derail as the idea of doing more animated films might outweigh the opportunity to create something truly great with these two standout actors. All that being said, the movie still has a long way to go until they'll be able to experience it. It's probably best to hold back on negative opinions before the movie actually starts coming together. As of right now, Spies in Disguise is still in the very early development stages, so even more news should be coming soon.
