It's been five years since Will Ferrell last stepped into his Anchorman role of Ron Burgundy, but now he'll be reprising the character for a new podcast series. Hot off the success of the Christmas classic Elf, Ferrell joined Anchorman as a famous San Diego news anchor. The film received a long-awaited sequel in 2013, but for many people, it didn't live up to the original.
Despite his newer films generally not being as well received as his older ones, Ferrell continues to act in comedies. Most recently, Ferrell has starred in films like The House and Daddy's Home 2, and has also appeared in the TV series I Love You, America and the TV movie The Royal Wedding Live with Cord and Tish!. Ferrell also has several projects coming out soon, such as the comedic take on the classic stories of Sherlock Holmes in the film Holmes & Watson, and a new comedy where he'll play Jason Momoa's father. While fans are likely looking forward to his new roles, Ferrell will also be returning to his Anchorman persona.

First reported by Variety, the Ron Burgundy Podcast will air on iHeartRadio in the first quarter of 2019, with a second season likely being released in mid-2019. The podcast will run for 13 episodes, will be co-produced by Funny or Die, and will, of course, star Ferrell as Ron Burgundy. In promoting the new podcast, the character Burgundy explained, "Listen, I don’t know what a podcast is, but I currently have a lot of time on my hands and a lot to talk about. I am also broke. Therefore, I am very excited to do this podcast. It is literally saving my life.” In keeping up with the fun of Burgundy's recent comments, president of the iHeartPodcast Network Conal Byrne issued the following statement:
"To be honest, we don’t want to do this podcast and we just want to get this announcement over with as soon as possible. Ron quite literally forced us into making this podcast with him, first calling us more than one hundred times in a single day and then proceeding to actually show up at our doorstep and physically force himself into our studios. We do hope the podcast is well-received, but in the meantime, we hope by agreeing to do the announcement he will stay away".
Around this time of year, many fans of the Christmas movie Elf start to wonder if Ferrell will ever step back into the role of Buddy the Elf. While Ferrell doesn't seem interested in reprising that role, plans for Step Brothers 2 have been discussed, but the sequel isn't in active development. That being said, Ferrell could have a change of heart for both of these projects, since he previously returned to the role of Mugatu for Zoolander 2, and is now returning for this Anchorman podcast.
Even though Ferrell isn't returning for a third Anchorman movie, this upcoming podcast will surely bring in a lot of listeners to iHeartRadio. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues may have not been as well received as the first film, but the Anchorman films still have a strong fan base who likely still quote the legendary character on a regular basis. It's also possible that this podcast could bring the character enough attention to warrant an Anchorman 3, but regardless, it'll definitely be fun for fans to hear Ron Burgundy on the iHeartRadio waves.
