The Goldshard is one of the giant Kemonos players can hunt in Wild Hearts, reminiscent of a porcupine. It is a vicious, Earth-attributed creature whose crystal spines fire and impale anyone not behind cover. If players can successfully hunt this Kemono, they can collect materials for the Veteran's armor.

Featured in the final preview for Wild Hearts, the Goldshard's spines are its signature attack, launching them out of its back after leaping away from the player. If players can use their Karakuri shields or natural environment to block the spines, they can force the Goldshard to regrow the spines and buy themselves time to attack. The Goldshard also attacks with its claws, teeth, and tail, while occasionally rolling into a ball. Finally, it can enter into an enraged state, strengthening its attacks and exploding the field with crystals, making the Goldshard an exciting Wild Hearts Kemono.

Tools & Techniques To Fight The Goldshard In Wild Hearts

Wild Hearts player facing a giant porcupine-esque monster.

In Wild Hearts, the Goldshard is resistant to Fire and Earth attribute attacks, alongside the Ablaze ailment. Its attribute weaknesses are Wood and Wind, with Pummel and Lunge attacks proving effective. In an interview with directors Kotaro Hirata and Takuto Edagawa, the pair discussed how every detail of a Kemono's design is intentional and specific, so it makes sense that the only weak point on this saber-covered monster is the head.

As seen in this Noori Gaming video, while striking the head deals the most damage against the Goldshard in Wild Hearts, the sides of the Kemono are the best space to linger in order to avoid attacks. The majority of the Goldshard's attacks involve the Kemono facing the player or striking with its back turned.

In order to find the Goldshard, players should head for Akikure Canyon, in either Winter Solstice Cavern or the Silverglass Plains, enjoying the open world that makes Wild Hearts distinct from Monster Hunter.

The best Karakuri and equipment to take down the Goldshard in Wild Hearts should play into the abovementioned weaknesses. The Bow and Bladed Wagase do Lunge damage while the Maul does Pummel damage, although the Bow is superior to the Bladed Wagase and Maul. Since Goldshard's attacks are primarily Earth-based, players should wear armor with a strong resistance to that attribute. The most important Karakuri to bring to the fight are defensive Karakuri, including Shield Wall and Bulwark.

After defeating the Goldshard, players can get various items, including Goldshard Claws, Goldshard Incisors, Goldshard Spines, Goldshard Tails, Rare Goldshard Calculuses, Small Harvest Crystals, Veteran Kemono Blood, and Veteran Teardrops. These materials can all be used in Wild Hearts' ancient crafting system for weapons and armor. The Goldshard is not one of the most dangerous Kemonos found in Wild Hearts, but it is certainly fun to fight.
