Sarah Hyland is Love Island USA's latest and greatest host, and the franchise is fortunate to have her. Sarah's fans probably know her best as the eldest daughter of Phil and Claire Dunphy on Modern Family, where she stole scenes with her comedic timing, beauty, and ability to transcend the ditsy stereotype she was cast to portray. Sarah joins Love Island USA as a seasoned actress who understands the complexity of human emotions. She's also captured her fans' hearts with a social media presence full of Bachelor in Paradise commentary, silly bits, and compelling honesty. Sarah struggled with kidney dysplasia and gout from a young age, and her transparency about her physical and mental health struggles makes her all the more relatable but in no way define her. Her goofy and heartwarming romance with Bachelor Nation fan-favorite Wells Adams also brought a broader audience and a significant presence in unscripted television, making her the ideal choice as the Love Island USA host.

After introducing the new show on Peacock, Sarah took a seemingly impromptu phone call. At first, it might have seemed like Sarah was talking to her now husband and Bachelor in Paradise's resident bartender Wells. "Hi, babes. No, I'm here. Yeah, I literally just told everybody about the move. Yeah I just told them the Peacock thing, the steamier streamier thing, the whole marketing bit. Where are you?" However, as the conversation continues, "babes" seems more likely to be a Love Island USA producer. Then Sarah realizes she took the wrong left on the beach, confronts some confused homeowners, and apologizes profusely before making her exit.

After an equally unapologetically scripted intro to the cast members, Sarah waltzes into the real Love Island villa and asked, "So are we here for love or a good time?British babysitter Zeta answered, "love is a good time," to which everyone cheered. As the women discuss past relationships and delve into their expectations for a real connection, Sarah gave her thoughts, saying, "I think that there's a difference between puppy love where you really think like you are in love and as you get older you realize oh that wasn't love at all girl." As Sarah led the gaggle of beautiful women to get excited about their new adventure, the narrator joked "or should we call it Love Hyland, you're welcome America."

Unsurprisingly, trying to book Sarah for a cameo with Wells on Bachelor in Paradise was too expensive, especially considering her history with ABC after a decade on Modern Family. For the same reasons, it seems Sarah had an introductory role on Love Island USA but has only appeared once since. On one level, the show keeps things interesting with text messages and new faces as its only guiding element. On another level, as feelings get more complex, for couples like Zeta and Timmy and Sydney and Isaiah, Sarah's humor, emotional intelligence, and compassion are missed from elimination ceremonies and cast shakeups.

If Sarah returns for a second season hosting Love Island USA on Peacock, it would be great to see more of her. She's a big draw for new franchise fans who've known her for over a decade on Modern Family and love her analyses of Bachelor In Paradise from home with Wells. As reality dating shows compete with each other with campy bits and host equally gorgeous and hilarious, Sarah's a big asset.
