One of the biggest surprise hits of the summer, MultiVersus, was nearing the start of its first official in-game season, but the release has been delayed to an unknown date. Previously, the game's first season was set to begin on August 9, but recently suffered a delay. This news came without a replacement release date, which has thrust the game into an odd sort of purgatory during its open beta phase.Since the open beta launch on July 26, MultiVersus has gained a ton of momentum from fans of the platform fighter genre, due mostly to how approachable MultiVersus is compared to Super Smash Bros. The fresh platform brawler even had a tournament with professional players from games like Smash and Brawlhalla competing for a $100,000 prize pool at the prominent EVO fighting game tournament. MultiVersus has had a lot of momentum, but some of that may slow down a bit due to the delay of the game's first official season.Related: Will MultiVersus Always Be Free-To-Play?MultiVersus Season 1 has been delayed without a new date, and unfortunately has given no official reason behind the lack of one. Based on updates given by developers on social media, though, players can at least guess why no new date was given for the game's first season. Based on updates for the development of the MultiVersus' delayed season and new character Morty, it seems that this delay may not push the release back very far.

MultiVersus Season 1 & Morty Were Delayed, But The Wait May Be Short

MultiVersus' first season may not be delayed for very long.

No official reason has been given for not having a new release date for this new season, but it seems that it's likely due to the development team trying to keep the date close to the originally planned August 8 release. According to a Season 1 snapshot shown by the Player First Games development team at EVO, the season will include two new modes, new cosmetics, and still launch with Morty as its first character. And, according to a tweet from MultiVersus Game Director Tony Huynh, Morty could be nearing the end of development.

Importantly, Huynh using the phrasing, "tuning pass" makes it seem as though Morty's MultiVersus character is nearing the finish line of development. Alongside other features like the aforementioned cosmetics and modes, and the announced update to buff MultiVersus' Wonder Woman in Season 1, Morty nearing the finish line for development is a good sign for a release still coming soon.

MultiVersus unfortunately has no replacement release date for the upcoming first season. However, due to status updates from development staff like Game Director Tony Huynh, it seems that Season 1 is at least still right around the corner, perhaps in the coming weeks. Although there's no set date, players can look forward to a wealth of content like new characters, a new arcade mode, a ranked online playlist, and new cosmetics when MultiVersus Season 1 launches.
