Lucy DeCoutere suddenly left Trailer Park Boys after season 10 due to her unexpected resignation in 2016. Trailer Park Boys ran for seven seasons on the Canadian channel Showcase, and five seasons on Netflix, then it moved to Swearnet.com in 2021 after a three-year hiatus. Lucy DeCoutere left Trailer Park Boys during its run as a Netflix Original show.DeCoutere portrayed Lucy, Ricky's on-and-off-again girlfriend, for the first 10 seasons and appeared in a number of Trailer Park Boys movies and specials. The first episode of season 11 revealed that Lucy left Canada to be actor Tom Arnold's nanny after Ricky (Robb Wells) couldn't meet her demands to stop partying. Lucy's exit as a character was actually perfect because Tom Arnold just happened to be a guest star in the second half of Trailer Park Boys season 10. Unfortunately, the exit of Lucy DeCoutere was far from perfect.Related: The Office: Why Rashida Jones' Karen Left After Season 3According to multiple news outlets and Lucy DeCoutere herself, the actor abruptly left Trailer Park Boys because of several reasons. The first reason involved actor Mike Smith, the actor behind the glasses-wearing Trailer Park Boys character Bubbles. The second reason involved Jian Ghomeshi, a former Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio host. Then, to further complicate matters, a third variable was introduced by Trailer Park Boys' publicist.

BTS Reasons Led To Lucy's Exit From Trailer Park Boys

In April 2016, Mike Smith was arrested in Los Angeles on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge, which was dropped one month later. The day after Mike Smith's arrest, however, Lucy DeCoutere tweeted her resignation from Trailer Park Boys. The swift decision prompted surprise, which led to a brief tweet from her addressing abuse. The Toronto Star reported Lucy DeCoutere's exit from Trailer Park Boys was also influenced by her experience "as a complainant in the high-profile sexual assault case against former CBC radio host Jian Ghomeshi, which ended in his acquittal, and that she was quitting as a matter of principle."

That should have been the end of it, as Lucy was written off as going to be a nanny to former Roseanne sitcom actor Tom Arnold. But then The Toronto Star received an email from Trailer Park Boys publicist Sheila Roberts. According to her, Lucy DeCoutere told the show's producers she wouldn't be returning for another season, but the discussion was allegedly held several weeks before Mike Smith's arrest. The people who were already confused had even more questions after that revelation.

The official story hasn't changed on either side as of 2022. Clearly, while the granular details may still be up in the air, Lucy DeCoutere left Trailer Park Boys for a variety of behind-the-scenes reasons. It's a shame Lucy DeCoutere's exit from the Netflix Original show wasn't as seamless as her long-running Trailer Park Boys character's exit.
