Netflix’s hit reality show Love Is Blind is supposed to be about falling in love regardless of looks, status, or anything superficial; however, the producers primarily cast slim, attractive, and often shallow participants. Love Is Blind aired its first season in 2020 and was met with a lot of praise from its fans. While viewers have grown to love the show, some believe the cast can be worked on.

There are two reasons Love is Blind cast members should consist of more ordinary people. Firstly, it would be more interesting when the participants would reveal themselves to each other. Secondly, the chances of the couples continuing their relationships beyond filming would likely increase significantly. Regarding the first point, the way the show runs now, viewers tend to feel pretty confident that the newly engaged couples will be happy with what they see outside the pods as everyone on Love Is Bind is good-looking. The anticipation of watching a stud muffin meet a plain Jane would be much more intriguing for viewers. Watching their love continue to blossom would be inspirational and even relatable. The producers tried to cast plus-size women in Love is Blind season 2, but they didn't get much screen time. Co-host Vanessa Lachey told Insider that the reason these women did not make it far was that their insecurities shone through, implying all curvy women are insecure.

Love Is Only Blind When Looks Don’t Matter

As Love Is Blind season 2’s Shake Chatterjee made clear, there are many ways to find out if someone is slim and fit without asking them directly. Regardless, weight is not the only issue. While it is true that the Love Is Blind producers listened to their audience and included more body diversity in Love Is Blind season 3, the problems persisted. Firstly, this was only true for the women, and secondly, the plus-size women who were cast, such as Alexa Alfia, a frontrunner with Brennon Lemieux, were stunning. They were still not even close to being the ordinary person next door. Casting more average-looking people with great personalities would be more captivating to viewers.

Regarding the second point, regular people who are not on the show to gain followers or launch an entertainment career are much more likely to take the process seriously. They are not going to be as inclined to hit on their rejects once they are out of the pods, like Love Is Blind season 3’s Bartise Bowden and Cole Barnett or Jessica Batten from Love Is Blind season 1. They are not as apt to fake a relationship, which SK Alagbada has been accused of, for the sake of being on TV. Ordinary people are more than likely looking to fall in love and create a meaningful, lasting relationship.

Producers should start looking for their next Love Is Blind contestants at places such as the grocery store or the mall. They need to find people who would normally never agree to be on a reality TV show but are willing to do it for the sake of finding true love in such an exciting way. Once they have been properly screened, they can participate in the real social experiment, which the premise is based on, and find out if love truly is blind.
