TikTok is one of the best apps to watch and create viral videos — until you get a message saying your TikTok account has been locked. Although not uncommon, bugs/issues with smartphone apps are never fun to deal with. Whether it be Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, or any other application, random software glitches turn otherwise great apps into frustrating ones. For all the things TikTok does well, it also has its fair share of problems. Many users have been plagued with TikTok's 'age-restricted' error, blocking them from watching videos they should be able to see. There's also the infamous 'invalid parameters' error message, a bug that breaks users' Following page, and more.

Another potential problem is having your TikTok account locked. While TikTok doesn't say why your account is locked in its error message, there are a few reasons behind it. If you broke any of TikTok's guidelines/rules — and got caught doing so — that's a guaranteed way to have your account locked. This can include using share bots to artificially boost your videos, sharing inappropriate content, or harassing other users in a video's comments. But those aren't the only reasons TikTok locks someone out of their account. You can also be locked out of your account for entering the wrong password too many times while trying to log in.

How To Fix A Locked TikTok Account

It's also possible that there's a random glitch with TikTok's servers that's incorrectly locking you out. Whatever the reason, there are a couple of ways to fix a locked TikTok account. The first step is to try resetting your password. Whether you tried submitting the wrong password too many times (or something with TikTok's wires got crossed), resetting your password is often the easiest way to unlock a locked account. Here's how to do it:

  • Open the TikTok app on your phone.
  • Tap the 'Log in' button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Tap 'Use phone/email/username.'
  • Tap 'Email/Username.'
  • Tap 'Forgot password?'

This displays a pop-up message if you'd like to reset the password with your phone number or email address. Choose whichever method you prefer, follow the instructions TikTok sends to you, and try logging in again with your new password. But what if you reset your password and you're still locked out of your TikTok account? In that case, the only other option is to contact TikTok support and see if they can figure out what's going on. The best way to do this is by going to the 'Report a problem' page in the app.

  • Open the TikTok app on your phone.
  • Tap the '?' in the top right corner.
  • Tap the paper icon in the top right.
  • Tap the paper icon again.
  • Tap the text box underneath 'Tell us your feedback.'
  • Type a message explaining the problem.
  • Tap the red 'Report' button.

Another option is to contact TikTok on Twitter. If you're having trouble with the 'Report a problem' page (or if TikTok's taking too long to respond), sending a message on Twitter may speed up the process. Open the Twitter app on your phone, find the 'TikTokSupport' account, and tap the message icon on the profile page to send a direct message. Either by resetting your password or getting help from a support member, this should get you on the right path to fixing a locked TikTok account.
