Will Tyler Perry complete the trilogy with Why Did I Get Married 3? Ever since Tyler Perry made his movie debut with Diary Of A Mad Black Woman in 2005 - which was also the first film to feature his tough grandmother character Madea - he's become something of a powerhouse figure in the industry. He acts, writes, produces, and directs, and outside of his own projects, he's appeared in movies like Gone Girl and Star Trek.
He's starred in eleven movies featuring Madea, including Boo! A Madea Halloween, Madea Goes To Jail and the final movie A Madea Family Funeral. He also made some guest appearances as Madea on TBS' House Of Payne, and some of the other shows he's developed include Too Close To Home and the long-running The Haves And The Have Nots. Outside of Madea, Perry has directed movies like The Single Moms Club, Acrimony, and both Why Did I Get Married? movies, starring Janet Jackson and Tasha Smith.
The original Why Did I Get Married? explored the relationships of four married couples during a college reunion - which is made quite awkward when an infidelity is exposed - and the sequel found them heading to a retreat to work on their marriage issues. Both movies were solid hits, but will Why Did I Get Married 3? ever happen?
Why Did I Get Married 3? Is Possible
Actress Tasha Smith (Empire) revealed in a 2010 interview that Tyler Perry said there was one more story to tell, and that Why Did I Get Married 3? was a possibility. That said, she also revealed Perry hadn't disclosed what a third movie would be about, and in the ten years since the sequel was released, there's been little to no sign of movement on another entry.
For Better Or Worse Was A Why Did I Get Married? Spinoff
One possible reason Why Did I Get Married 3? hasn't moved ahead is that the franchise received a spinoff series with For Better Or Worse. This sitcom focused on the marriage of Angela and Marcus, played by Tasha Smith and Michael Jai White (Spawn) respectively. The show would end up running for six seasons.
While Why Did I Get Married 3? is still a possibility, For Better Or Worse spent over 160 episodes covering much of the same themes, so Tyler Perry may have decided to move on to other projects instead. There's still an audience for the franchise, but the lack of progress on a third movie suggests no further sequels are planned.
