Gamora will return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but why is she with the Ravagers instead of the Guardians? Every Marvel reveal from Comic-Con 2022 throws a surprising twist into a different MCU project. In the case of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, SDCC confirms that Gamora will not just return, but is also now part of the interstellar crime syndicate known as the Ravagers.

Gamora died when Thanos sacrificed her on Vormir for the Soul Stone, which means that the original Gamora introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy is either dead or still trapped in the Infinity Stone. Following the Time Heist in Avengers: Endgame, 2014 Gamora travels forward in time to help the heroes fight Thanos. Though 2014 Gamora had no memories of Peter Quill or the Guardians, a mind link between Nebula's past and present selves allowed Gamora to learn about everything that transpired between her and the other Guardians. In the aftermath of Thanos' defeat, Gamora disappeared - until the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer, which also explains why Gamora was not in Thor 4Apparently, Gamora ended up with the Ravagers, and though it's unclear how exactly this happened, it's not really surprising.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 turning 2014 Gamora into a Ravager actually makes a lot of sense due to the character's background. Gamora was raised by Thanos as part of a genocidal cabal of elite warriors. Though the Ravagers are criminals, they abide by a moral code that includes not dealing in child trafficking or killing without cause. This is closer to who Gamora was before she met her fellow Guardians. Unlike the original Gamora, Avengers: Endgame was also the only time 2014 Gamora fought alongside superheroes to save the world. Considering how Gamora was a crucial member of the Children of Thanos, being a Ravager is actually a massive improvement for the assumedly still morally gray character.

Moreover, by surrounding herself with criminals and fugitives, Gamora could also be protecting herself from being prosecuted as a former part of Thanos' family. Anyone hunting Gamora would have to go through the Ravagers first. On the other hand, there could be another reason why Gamora chose to go with the Ravagers instead of the Guardians. After learning about everything the Guardians of the Galaxy have done through Nebula's mind link, Gamora may not want to put the Guardians in harm's way. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gamora may even see herself and her fellow Ravagers to be more expendable than the Guardians, who have a history of fighting genocidal threats instead of just crime. Nebula and Gamora's history could have also pushed Gamora to try and protect her sister. All of this would explain why Gamora avoided the other Guardians until their encounter in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer.

Will Gamora Rejoin The Guardians In GOTG 3?

Will Gamora rejoin the Guardians of the Galaxy in Vol. 3?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is likely to see Gamora leaving the Ravagers and returning to her original MCU team. Gamora can't stay a loner in the MCU forever. The main purpose of Gamora's Ravagers arc is to lay the groundwork for 2014 Gamora to finally join and complete the Guardians of the Galaxy team in the third MCU movie. Furthermore, considering the MCU Phase 4 debut of Thanos' brother Starfox in EternalsGuardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 could reveal more about Gamora's family and give her more reasons to rejoin the team, as it's almost certain that Gamora will rejoin the Guardians. Whether or not Gamora and Peter Quill end up together, however, is the bigger mystery.
