Camila Cabello announced in May that she'd be joining The Voice season 22 as a coach, but as the first day of filming approaches, she might have to sit out the first round of auditions. Last season, singer Ariana Grande joined the singing competition show for the first time and made some close connections with her team members. However, in November 2021, about a month before The Voice season 21 finale, Ariana announced she was cast as Glinda in the film adaption of Wicked. As the pop star takes on the role of the bubbly blonde from Oz, Camila has stepped in to fill her red chair.

With the announcement of Camila also came the departure of fan favorite Kelly Clarkson. The mother of two finalized her divorce in March, and after eight seasons on The Voice, Kelly decided it was time to take a break. Luckily, the American Idol winner's Daytime Emmy-winning talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, is still going strong. While fans will miss Kelly on The Voice, they're excited to welcome back Gwen Stefani, who acted as a coach on the show for seasons 7, 9, 12, 17, and 19. The "Hollaback Girl" singer will be joining her husband Blake Shelton, whom she met on the show and has been a coach since season 1.

While Camilla should be getting ready to start filming the auditions, she might be sending someone else to sit in for her. Camilla revealed in a TikTok video that she tested positive for COVID-19, and if the star is not better by next week, she won't be able to sit alongside her fellow coaches for The Voice auditions. "I got the rona," the "Señorita" singer captioned her video as she danced to Pitbull's "Watagatapitusberry." She also showed off her Halls defense cough drops, chest rub, and bottles of DayQuil and NyQuil, letting The Voice fans know how she's combatting the virus.

The Voice Season 21 Coaches

According to Mjsbigblog, The Voice is set to start filming its season 22 Battle Rounds on July 27, which is less than a week away. The site also acknowledges that Camila's diagnosis may prevent her from filming the Battle Round mentor tapings since those are also filmed pretty early. Hopefully, the singer keeps resting and gets a negative COVID-19 test in time to start filming. If not, she'll have to take a page from Kelly's book. The "Breakaway" singer was sick during an episode of season 20 and sent country singer Kelsey Ballerini to sit in for her. Perhaps Camila can call up one of her friends like Taylor Swift or ex-boyfriend Shawn Mendes to fill in for her.

It would be disappointing if Camila missed the start of filming for her first season of The Voice. However, the show must follow protocols to keep everyone safe, and if Camila is not better by July 27, she'll have to sit this round out. Luckily, Camila should be getting better soon and won't be absent from the show for too long. Once she's better, she'll surely do a great job coaching and mentoring contestants on The Voice.
