The October 10 episode of WWE Monday Night Raw was chock full of surprises, including Brock Lesnar's shocking return to television. The Beast Incarnate hadn't been seen on television since losing to Roman Reigns at SummerSlam on July 30. However, he immediately made his presence felt on the red brand, attacking Bobby Lashley before his scheduled US Championship defense against Seth Rollins. Rollins goaded the All-Mighty into defending his title despite Lesnar's assault, and The Visionary actually managed to win the subsequent match.

There's a lot to unpack in that segment. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about what WWE could be thinking now that Lesnar is back in the fold. "They're probably going to be wrestling at [Crown Jewel]. [Brock Lesnar] comes back for Saudi Arabia, so it made sense. The story there is that the first match they had, Bobby Lashley won--even though there was a lot of interference. So Brock does kind of have... he can go to get his win back. And Bobby Lashley is no longer US Champion. Seth Rollins is. So Brock doesn't have to win a championship. It looks like Logan Paul and Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley as maybe the top two matches on [Crown Jewel]."

Brock Lesnar Vs. Bobby Lashley Makes Perfect Sense For Crown Jewel

Unlike in years gone by, this match doesn't feel thrown together for the sake of a big payday. The entire point of the Crown Jewel shows is to pack as much star power as possible onto the card, so there was no way that Brock Lesnar would be sitting the event out. Lesnar and Lashley have a ton of history, and Brock's attack on Monday night will have far-reaching repercussions on various storylines. Lashley was a fighting US Champion and helped restore a ton of prestige for the title. A smarmy Seth Rollins hanging onto the title by hook and crook will starkly contrast Lashley's run, making that eventual rematch feel like a certainty.

It's unclear if Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle are through with their feud after Extreme Rules. The fight pit would be a good way for those two to wrap up their lengthy rivalry, freeing both up for new programs. Riddle opened Raw by getting involved in a segment with The Bloodline, so there could be something brewing long-term there. There are a few exciting possibilities for Rollins' next feud, including Kevin Owens or maybe even a returning Bray Wyatt. WWE fans will get a full-on fight between Lesnar and Lashley at Crown Jewel, though, assuming that Meltzer's reasoning is valid. The premium live event is set to take place on November 5, broadcasting live from Mrsool Park. With several weeks to go until the show, it'll be interesting to see if someone like Goldberg is introduced to the mix as well.
