Netflix' Bling Empire season 2 has finally been released, and most of the cast members are genuine friends, but Dorothy Wang and Kane Lim do not get along, and fans want to know why. As the first Asian-American-centered reality show on Netflix, the series quickly gathered positive reviews from viewers after its season 1 premiere in early 2021. Between dazzling displays of opulence, fashion-forward ensembles, and petty drama, the show has been compared to the 2018 film, Crazy Rich Asians. Viewers can't get enough of fan favorites like Kane, Anna Shay, and Kevin Kreider.
Most of the season 1 cast returned for Bling Empire season 2 (minus Kelly Mi Li's ex-boyfriend, Andrew Gray) and two new faces were added. They are Mimi Morris, a Vietnamese philanthropist, and Dorothy, a first generation Chinese-American who previously starred in Rich Kids Of Beverly Hills. While Dorothy seemed to enjoy meeting her Bling Empire co-stars during episode 2, her frosty attitude towards Kane did not go unnoticed by fans, or Jamie Xie. Things only got more awkward when Jamie planned a surprise lunch with Dorothy and Kane, who both looked equally uncomfortable. Things went downhill rather quickly, and Dorothy and Kane spent the rest of Bling Empire season 2 on opposing sides. With Dorothy being the Netflix series' newcomer, and Kane being one of the most popular cast members, viewers want to know exactly why the two reality celebs are feuding.
Dorothy and Kane's tense history actually goes back to long before Bling Empire was created. According to Dorothy, she has been avoiding Kane for years, after he failed to make a good first impression. In episode 3, Dorothy explained that she first met Kane over a decade ago, and made it quite clear that she was not charmed by his eccentric and upbeat personality. She said in a confessional, "Kane has been trying to get lunch since 2011 and I'd rather fast for 87 days straight." With the Beverly Hills socialite scene being smaller than fans may think, Dorothy reiterates that between running into Kane while shopping and working out at the gym, her opinion that Kane is "obnoxious and annoying," has only gotten stronger. Kane going toe-to-toe with Dorothy's best friend Ezra on Instagram hasn't helped matters, either.
As for Kane, the 31-year-old says that his biggest issue with Dorothy is that she's hard to talk to. In his own conversation with Jamie during Bling Empire episode 2, Kane claimed that he first ran into Dorothy "6 years ago," because they traveled in the same social circles. With several mutual friends between them, Kane was interested in growing a friendship with Dorothy, but the 34-year-old continuously ignored his attempts. He explained that he and Dorothy have "nothing in common" besides speaking Mandarin and coming from wealth. Kane ultimately believes that Dorothy has intentionally ignored him since first tasting fame on Rich Kids Of Beverly Hills and the 2016 show Famously Single, although Kane has since told People that he still has respect for her.
It's hard to determine which parts of Kane and Dorothy's stories are factually true, but one sure thing is that Bling Empire fans shouldn't expect them to become more than co-stars anytime soon. Each star is content to maintain their distance from the other, but Kane and Dorothy have made their marks on the Netflix series. If Bling Empire season 3 gets the green light, viewers can hopefully expect both of them to return to the streaming service. In the meantime, Selling Sunset fans are hoping for a crossover, now that it's common knowledge that Kane works for The Oppenheim Group.
