  • The Big Brother house and backyard are not real, but rather an elaborately staged studio. Some contestants have faked situations for strategic purposes, causing speculation about other planned production elements.

Since the beginning of Big Brother, there's been speculation that one of the best reality TV shows is actually scripted. As Big Brother season 26 approaches, could it be possible that action onscreen may or may not have happened in real life? Since the advent of reality TV, there have been accusations of fake production.

So many details go into a television production that some logistics must be planned to be executed successfully. That's where scripting comes in. The whole idea of Big Brother is pretty questionable. Putting strangers in a house together without prior rules or expectations suggests that strings may be pulled behind the scenes. Which aspects could be fake?

Big Brother Winners Might Be Decided Before Filming Begins

According to TV Over Mind, Big Brother winners are chosen at the beginning of the competition and not at the end as portrayed. It's more than likely that only the producers know who's going to win, and maybe they have an influencer planted in the group to navigate the results they have planned. Regardless of how this gets played out, some producing elements are definitely going on with the show.

The Live Phone Calls In Big Brother Are Probably Fake

Secondly, contestants are supposed to get a live phone call to discover they are guests in the house. However, that's unlikely. The producers probably narrow the list of potential Big Brother houseguests and film them live. They narrowed the call list down to around 20, so the 16 that were chosen were truly surprised by their acceptance. Plus, some have said contestants know they will be on the show months in advance, so producers have time to plan out all the house and show production details.

Next, most viewers will be shocked to discover that the house the contestants stay in isn't a house. The grass isn't real. The backyard isn't real. It's all an elaborately staged studio or soundstage. Lastly, in season 12, Matt adds to the rumors that Big Brother might be fake. Matt faked his supposed wife's mysterious illness to garner sympathy from the other houseguests. Ultimately, it backfired on him as he was eliminated from the challenge. Supposedly, CBS producers were upset when they found out the truth, but the question remains if other production entities planned it out.

Big Brother has entertained the masses for over twenty seasons, but some aspects of the show are fake. However, assuming everything about reality TV is sincere is over. There are always bound to be elements of editing in post-production and staged drama to make the show entertaining for viewers. Despite some accusations, Big Brother remains popular and no more fake than other reality TV shows.
