When another Below Deck spin-off was announced, fans were excited, but Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 1 came as a major disappointment to many. Like some of the other spin-offs, BDSY struggled to find its sea legs in the first season, but won fans over with seasons 2 and 3. From an unlikable crew, stale drama, and a downsized yacht, season 1 did not live up to the rest of the franchise.

Fans were excited to see the drama to come from BDSY and see the smaller sailing vessel cruise along the waters of Greece. Fans loved watching all the crew and guests struggle to walk when the yacht started tilting on the high seas, but that was where the fun ended. The only returning cast member was Chef Adam Glick, who managed to anger both the chief stew and captain on Below Deck Mediterranean. This charter season, Adam was off to a better start with the chief stew Jenna MacGillivray. However, when the pair started up a boatmance, both the crew and fans were steadfastly against it.

Redditers Go Off On Below Deck Sailing YachtBelow Deck Sailing Yacht Season 1

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 1 was the charter season of lackluster romances. Despite being a couple for four years, first mate Paget Berry and deckhand Ciara Duggan had little chemistry. Chief Stew Jenna even called the pair out for acting like siblings. When third stew Georgia Grobler started flirting with Paget in front of Ciara, fans soured on both of them. Reddit user u/SQUID_F****R said the season is "not even fun terrible, like a hot mess, just exhausting and frustrating."

BDSY season 1 is almost universally hated because there was too much emphasis on the power-hungry heads of the department, and too much screen time for the infamous guitar-playing and singing that fans did not ask for. Many fans had a problem with Jenna and one Redditer said, "Jenna takes a spot on my list of the worst humans to be on BD ever." It was no surprise that Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2 cleaned house, and the only one to return was Captain Glenn Shephard.

Despite fans hating Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 1, there were some bright spots aboard Parsifal III. Captain Glenn is loved for his hands-off, laid back leadership style, and fans were excited to see him return for the next two seasons. There was no shortage of interesting charter guests that fans loved to hate. Their very first charter saw Jenna prepare all day for an impromptu wedding that the groom got too drunk to participate in, then they had the women who wanted to smell rather than eat their food, and possibly the worsts guests of all time, the Long Island guy's trip. However, not even several unforgettable charter guests could redeem season 1.
