Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, is known by many to be the most powerful character in the Marvel universe, but Thor could actually beat her in a fight, according to a theory. Throughout WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2, the Scarlet Witch shows off her impressive magical abilities. Given that she can warp reality with her mind, she manipulates a whole small town and even creates two kids of her own using her spells. The Scarlet Witch further shows off her power in an unbridled effort to get her children back. Even while dreamwalking from across the multiverse, she's able to gain control of Earth-838's Wanda and eliminate that entire Illuminati singlehandedly. Even Captain Marvel's photon blasts are no contest for her bright red beams of powerful magic. She's able to stretch Reed Richards into ribbons, erase Blackbolt's mouth, and rip off Professor X's head without much effort. The Scarlet Witch's power is only limited by her will.

Thor is a 1500-year-old god with a magical, nearly indestructible ax named Stormbreaker. Throughout the MCU films, he's always called himself the "strongest Avenger." Thor is extremely powerful, and only his sister and father could overpower him. And while not immortal, he is nearly invulnerable, which is proven by the fact that he took the full force of the star that created Stormbreaker. Thor can also power himself up by charging himself with lightning, and he was even known in the comics to bend Captain America's shield, and then put it back to normal. He's a force to be reckoned with and one that is not taken lightly in the MCU.

So how could Thor beat the Scarlet Witch? First, as pointed out in the theory (via Reddit), Thor has over a thousand years of experience, unlike Wanda, who has no battle training. Experience often beats no experience, so this is a huge plus for the Thor column. While Thor is one of the most powerful beings in the MCU, it is known that Scarlet Witch's powers are superior. However, there are a lot of examples, even outside of Marvel, where powerful figures can still be defeated by those less so under the right circumstances.

How Thor Could Defeat Scarlet Witch In The MCU

Scarlet Witch vs. The Illuminati in Multiverse of Madness

Scarlet Witch's power is not absolute, because if she could really alter reality to do her bidding, she would have beat the Illuminati as a whole much more quickly. Thor is great at close-range combat, too, which is one of Wanda's weak points. Captain Marvel and Captain Carter were able to get in a few blows before succumbing to the Scarlet Witch, and that is because they got close enough to her to do it. The Scarlet Witch's weakest points arise when she is forced to actually fight someone directly in front of her, so close-range is probably Thor's best bet.

Another plus in the Thor column is Stormbreaker. It is a mighty weapon with no equal, that can be used to defeat even the most powerful of villains, including the Scarlet Witch. In Infinity War, Stormbreaker fully pierces through the power of six infinity stones (something that Wanda struggled to do herself). So the addition of Stormbreaker brings an "it" factor that Thor doesn't on his own. Stormbreaker can actually break through the Scarlet Witch's powers, even more than Captain Marvel's photon blasts, which could lead Thor to victory. So, provided the fight was on neutral ground, and that all they had was their powers/weapons, it is very likely that Thor could be the one Avenger who can beat the Scarlet Witch.
