Warning: Spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4.

The fourth episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi includes one of the show’s most eerie moments, where numerous Jedi corpses are preserved in Fortress Inquisitorius, with one being a familiar Jedi to longtime Star Wars viewers. The Galactic Empire subjugated the galaxy under its fascist rule as well as committed genocide against the Jedi Order, nearly wiping out their population by the events of the original Star Wars trilogy. The Empire’s depravity didn’t stop at simply murdering Jedi, however, as the Sith Order and Inquisitor Program also corrupted Jedi to the dark side, in many cases through torture. As evidenced by the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, the Empire also preserved the bodies of Jedi for sinister purposes, and one Jedi from Star Wars: The Clone Wars is shown among these corpses.

There are many Jedi Purge survivors in both the canon and Legends continuity, seemingly cheapening George Lucas’ vision of Order 66 and the ensuing purge leaving only Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda alive. Despite this, the number of Jedi survivors in both continuities is quite small, considering that around 10,000 Jedi were part of the Jedi Order in the prequel era before Palpatine’s coup. In many cases, Jedi survivors abandoned the Jedi way and lived relatively normal lives during the Empire’s reign, tragically trading their Jedi status for the sake of survival.

Most Jedi in Star Wars were dead by the events of the original trilogy, but the Empire’s horrific use of their bodies is shown in the Obi-Wan Kenobi episode “Part IV.” The purpose of the Inquisitors preserving Jedi corpses is unclear in the episode, but other Star Wars properties imply their potential uses. In Star Wars Rebels season 1, the Grand Inquisitor uses the corpse of Luminara Unduli to lure Jedi (or potential Jedi) into a deadly trap. The Mandalorian strongly suggests that the blood of powerful Force-sensitives is being harvested for experiments, potentially the creation of Force-sensitive strand-casts (such as Snoke) or the eventual resurrection of Emperor Palpatine. While only the corpse of Jedi Master Tera Sinube is identifiable, the other bodies have led to speculation over which other Jedi were killed and preserved by the Empire.

One Of Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Corpses Was Tera Sinube

Obi-Wan Kenobi Tera Sinube Corpse

The first and most obvious Jedi corpse in Fortress Inquisitorius in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4 is that of Tera Sinube, an elderly Cosian who debuted in The Clone Wars as a friend and mentor to Ahsoka Tano when the padawan lost her lightsaber in Coruscant’s underworld. Sinube was a kindly Jedi with a quirky sense of humor who was happy to help Tano recover her weapon and impart lessons of patience and deduction to the padawan. Despite his wisdom and skill in battle, Sinube was killed at some point during the Jedi Purge and his body is clearly shown among the Jedi corpses in Fortress Inquisitorius.

Was That Mace Windu In One Of The Tombs in Obi-Wan?

Obi wan kenobi confirm Mace windu is dead

A background Jedi corpse vaguely resembles Mace Windu, leading viewers to speculate that the legendary Jedi Master’s body was recovered following his tragic death in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and preserved within the Inquisitors’ headquarters. Mace Windu was a major Jedi character throughout the Star Wars prequel trilogy, so Kenobi would not have displayed his body among the other Jedi so nonchalantly. Mace Windu’s body was most likely lost in the streets of Coruscant along with his lightsaber. Moreover, Mace Windu’s potential survival is a popular theory among some viewers, making it highly unlikely that a brief background appearance as a corpse would be how the Star Wars franchise debunks this theory.

Who Were The Other Jedi In The Tombs At Fortress Inquisitorius?

While the only identifiable Jedi corpse at Fortress Inquisitorius is Tera Sinube, the Obi-Wan Kenobi scene also shows numerous other bodies, from an Ongree to several humanoids, and even, tragically, a Jedi youngling. The Ongree corpse may belong to the Jedi Master Coleman Kcaj, who appeared as a member of the Jedi High Council in Revenge of the Sith and several episodes of The Clone Wars. The youngling was likely one of the many Jedi initiates killed during Darth Vader’s attack on the Jedi Temple during Order 66. One of the humanoids vaguely resembles Quinlan Vos, who was mentioned in a previous episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi. As with Mace Windu, it’s highly unlikely that Vos, who is a friend of Obi-Wan’s, would be so nonchalantly shown as a corpse among other dead Jedi in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series without at least getting an emotional response from Kenobi.
