Summary

  • Season 9 of Married at First Sight had a mix of outcomes, with some couples divorcing and others staying together.
  • Iris and Keith had compatibility issues, with Iris's reluctance to be intimate being a major problem for Keith. They divorced.
  • Elizabeth and Jamie surprised fans by staying married after season 9, but they ultimately filed for divorce in 2023 after years of fighting.

Married at First Sight season 9 featured four couples, but not everyone is still together today. The show launched in 2014, and its relationship experts have always attempted to create successful marriages by matching couples through various assessments and questionnaires. The cast members meet for the first time to say "I do" at the altar and attempt to build lasting relationships once they've tied the knot.

While MAFS has produced some successful marriages over its 15 seasons, over half have sadly ended in divorce. Only a handful of unions resulted in marriages that still stand today. This has led to frustration with the experts' choices in recent seasons. Season 9 premiered in 2019 and featured four pairs of newlyweds from Charlotte, North Carolina, and is considered one of the best MAFS seasons of all time. Have any of the couples stayed together?

Iris and Keith had several issues in their marriage, one of the biggest being their lack of compatibility. Iris was a virgin who was reluctant to be intimate with Keith. While Keith had no problem being patient and understanding with his new wife, he felt frustrated with Iris's immaturity.

On Decision Day, Iris wanted to remain married, but Keith admitted wanting a divorce. During the season 9 reunion, Iris wanted to work things out, but Keith was not interested in reconciling. Iris and Keith remain divorced in 2023.

Elizabeth Bice & Jamie Thompson: Getting Divorced

Elizabeth and Jamie were certainly considered an odd match by MAFS fans, and many thought that they would surely divorce on Decision Day. Between Elizabeth's bold personality and Jamie's sharp tongue, the couple frequently argued over the little things. Surprisingly, Elizabeth and Jamie agreed to stay married at the end of season 9.

While the MAFS alums remained married for four years, they chose to file for divorce in July 2023. According to US Weekly, Jamie claims Elizabeth walked out on him after copious fighting. Elizabeth isn't currently ready to talk about the divorce.

Deonna McNeill & Gregory Okotie: Married

MAFS-Greg-Deonna

Unlike Elizabeth and Jamie, Deonna and Gregory were considered a successful match and became the fan favorites of season 9. Deonna was a shy and conservative operations manager, and Gregory was a confident 32-year-old who owned a math tutoring center. Deonna and Gregory's compatibility arose from their differences, and their marriage brought out the best in both. Naturally, Deonna and Gregory said "Yes" on Decision Day and have been happily married ever since. After announcing their first pregnancy in 2020, Deonna gave birth to their son Declan in February 2021.

Amber Bowles & Matthew Gwynne: Divorced

Amber and Matt in Married at First Sight

Of the four MAFS season 9 couples, Amber and Matthew easily went down in history as the worst. Amber had a tough past and abandonment issues, but Matthew exacerbated his new wife's concerns by treating her feelings and opinions nonchalantly. Matt was even accused of infidelity, which he didn't exactly deny. Amber and Matthew separated on Decision Day and have no plans to get back together after Married At First Sight.
