Warning: SPOILERS ahead for House of the Dragon and Fire & Blood!

Princess Rhaenyra's marriage is looming in House of the Dragon season 1, and here is what George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood book already revealed about who she marries. The young Targaryen princess' life changed when King Viserys I Targaryen officially made her the heir to the Iron Throne following the death of her mother and newborn brother. However, marriage is an important part of the Westeros political hierarchy and is required for royal families. Viewers have already seen Viserys marry Alicent and produce a male heir in Aegon II, but Rhaenyra's marriage took center stage in House of the Dragon episode 3.

The courting of Rhaenyra is a process she is not particularly interested in, especially due to the arranged aspects of the relationship, significant age gaps, and power plays involved. House of the Dragon season 1, episode 3 brings a few potential suitors into view for Rhaenyra. While Viserys is busy fending off proposals from across Westeros, he does view Jason Lannister as an acceptable match for his daughter, even if she disagrees. Other suggestions are made, ranging from Laenor Velaryon to Rhaenyra's two-year-old half-brother (as the Targaryens and Game of Thrones do not mind incest).

Who Rhaenyra Targaryen's First Husband Is (& Why)

Young Laenor Velaryon looking tired in House Of The Dragon

Who Rhaenyra Targaryen marries in House of the Dragon is already known, thanks to George R.R. Martin's books. It is known that Rhaenyra's first husband is the dragonrider Laenor Velaryon, the oldest son of Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen. She and Laenor get married in 114 AC when Rhaenyra is 17 years old after Viserys threatens to take away her status as the rightful heir to the Iron Throne if she does not marry. The marriage also strengthened Corlys and House Velaryon's commitment to the Targaryen family. After Rhaenyra marries Laenor, they have three kids together while she rules Dragonstone. Their marriage ended once Laenor died in 120 AC before the Dance of the Dragons.

Who Rhaenyra Targaryen's Second Husband Is (& Why)

Following Laenor's death, it does not take long for Rhaenyra Targaryen to find a second husband in her uncle, Daemon Targaryen. The weird House of the Dragon romance has already been set up as the show's first episode highlighted how close they are. Although Daemon's claim to the Iron Throne was passed over by King Viserys in favor of Rhaenyra created a separation between them, it will not be long before their relationship rekindles. George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood revealed that Rhaenyra marries Daemon in secret shortly after Laenor's death. Their secret wedding in Dragonstone became very controversial, as it also reignited rumors that they were romantically involved before.

The reason that Rhaenyra Targaryen married Daemon as her second husband is seemingly tied to her experience married to Laenor. Rumors indicated that Laenor was more interested in being with men than his wife, but the two also had very little in common otherwise. Rhaenyra and Daemon know each other very well (too well, some might say), and House of the Dragon repeatedly has shown they care for one another. While Daemon may want to marry Rhaenyra to get closer to ruling himself, the books paint a picture that he was quite supportive of her fighting to reclaim her status as heir to the Iron Throne.

New episodes of House of the Dragon release Sundays on HBO/HBO Max.
