In The Mandalorian, season 2, episode 5, "The Jedi," Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) faces off against a familiar-looking gunman working for the Magistrate. The character, Lang, is played by Michael Biehn, a veteran actor who has appeared in a number of iconic action movies from the '80s and '90s. The episode sees the Mandalorian and the child seeking out Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson. Predictably, Din Djarin finds himself at the center of a conflict.
In "The Jedi," the Mandalorian arrives on the forest planet of Corvus searching for the Jedi that Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) told him about. There, Mando meets Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto), aka the Magistrate, who asks him to eliminate Ahsoka. Din Djarin is careful not to actually agree to the assignment (thus not breaking the Mandalorian code), but uses the information she provides to find the former Jedi.
The Magistrate's right hand man is a mysterious gun for hire named Lang. Not much is known about the human, but his association with Elsbeth suggests an immoral disposition. During the showdown between the Magistrate and Ahsoka, Din Djarin and Lang face off in a classic Western-inspired duel — with Mando walking away the victor.
Biehn is comfortable in the role as Lang, likely because it's so similar to his past parts. Biehn starred in a number of James Cameron's sci-fi movies as characters with a military (or similar) background: he played Sgt. Kyle Reese in The Terminator and its sequel; Cpl. Dwayne Hicks in Aliens; and Lt. Coffey in The Abyss. More recently, Biehn was Sheriff Hague in Planet Terror and Chris Larabee in the TV remake of The Magnificent Seven.
Lang's part on The Mandalorian was short but memorable, and joins the rank of several exciting celebrity cameos in the series so far. Jon Favreau's highly-stylized take on a live-action Star Wars series has included a number of thoughtfully chosen veteran actors, like how Diana Lee Inosanto plays the Magistrate, or how Timothy Olyphant was cast as Cobb Vanth.
