This article contains major SPOILERS for The White Lotus season 2 finale!Albie and Portia may be two of the least beloved characters of The White Lotus season 2 due to their choices in Sicily, but their mistakes also perfectly led them back to one another. During their stays at the White Lotus Sicily resort, Albie tries to prove himself different from his womanizing father and grandfather, while Portia finds herself bored at the hotel after being told to stay hidden by her boss Tanya. Like many of The White Lotus season 2 characters, Albie and Portia discover the dangerous consequences of sex and power first-hand, yet ultimately find somewhat happy endings.
The two started off as potential romantic interests, but quickly separated after Albie started hooking up with Lucia and Portia started hanging out with Jack – neither of which yielded positive results. The naive Albie believed that local sex worker Lucia genuinely liked him, whereas Portia was sucked into a murderous scheme by Jack and his “uncle” Quentin. The pair somehow manage to make it out of The White Lotus season 2 alive, with Albie and Portia confronting one another at the airport and exchanging phone numbers, revealing how much simpler their vacations could have been if they had just stuck together.
Portia & Albie Were Both Involved In Dangerous White Lotus Cons
Unsurprisingly, due to their mutual self-assuredness and naivety, Portia and Albie were subjects of the biggest cons in The White Lotus season 2. Albie was played by Lucia for 50,000 euros, yet has no intention of stopping his savior complex for “wounded” women. Despite wanting to stop choosing men that aren’t good for her, Portia starts hooking up with Jack, who turns out to be manipulating her into staying away from the palazzo and hotel so that Quentin could arrange Tanya McQuoid's death. Both were duped on astronomical levels, proving they were far better for one another than they thought.
Albie’s “nice guy” act turned out to be genuine, but, like his father and grandfather, his sexual desires will continue to be his personal downfall. Since Portia explained that she didn’t want to be saved by Albie, Lucia fit his wants better – or so he thought. Portia wanted satisfaction and adventure, which she thought would come from a mysterious and potentially wealthy British guy. But, this only yielded personal death threats, the murder-scheme-turned-accidental-death of Tanya, and the discovery that the cryptic Jack was actually sleeping with a man who was hopefully not his uncle. In The White Lotus season 2's ending, Albie and Portia learned to embrace the mundane and accept that what they really needed was each other.
Why Portia Asked Albie For His Number In The White Lotus S2's Ending
After ditching Albie, failing to report Tanya’s murder conspiracy to the police, and being conned by the guy she left Albie for, Portia’s guilt and embarrassment likely told her to go back to the guy who she probably should have chosen in the first place. Since the “adventure” she had with Jack essentially turned into imprisonment, Portia sought safety and ease with Albie, so she could at least try a relationship with the proven nice guy. Given Portia was the one who originally left Albie, she knew that she would have to drop any ego and be the one to make the first move in The White Lotus season 2 finale by asking for his number.
Despite their terrible ordeals based on admittedly bad choices, Portia and Albie actually have the most optimistic endings of The White Lotus season 2. The high-stakes costs of their mistakes led them back to one another, which means they hopefully won’t go making the same errors in the future. Even if Portia and Albie’s potential romance doesn’t work out, they’re at least making the right steps toward avoiding self-sabotage after being severely humbled by their respective manipulations.
