Sydney Sweeney almost missed out on a huge role on The White Lotus because of her character on Euphoria. Sweeney is probably best known for her time on Euphoria as Lexi's (Maude Apatow) older sister Cassie Howard, a role that earned her an Emmy nomination. However, she scored a second iconic HBO role in The White Lotus season 1 playing Olivia Mossbacher, the acid-tongued daughter of Nicole (Connie Britton) and Mark (Steve Zahn).

Recently, Sweeney sat down for a profile with Variety discussing her career. During their conversation, she revealed that her prominent role in the Euphoria cast actually hampered her ability to get on The White Lotus. She explained that "I usually have to fight for" roles that show off her range. Because the character was so different from Cassie, she had to fight for the role and submit her own self-tape to prove that she had the range. Read her full quote below:

They didn’t think that I was right for ‘White Lotus,’ because I did ‘Euphoria.’ So I put myself on tape, I auditioned for ‘White Lotus’ just like everybody else and had a call back like everybody else. I could get offered roles that are similar to the ones that I’ve played, but the ones that are different, the ones that surprise people that I do, are the ones that I usually have to fight for.

Every Upcoming Sydney Sweeney Project

Although Sweeney also lamented that the White Lotus role has just added another type to her roster instead of opening her up to any kind of project, she seems to have continued her fight for more unique roles. She is participating in a variety of prominent upcoming titles that will show off exactly what she can do. This includes Reality, an HBO film set to be released tomorrow May 29 that stars the actor as Reality Winner, who was put on trial in 2017 for leaking American intelligence.

While that role is more dramatic, Sweeney will also be showing off her blockbuster chops in the upcoming Sony Spider-Man Universe movie Madame Web. She will be playing Julia Carpenter opposite Dakota Johnson in the title role. Although it is unknown exactly what her plot function is in the new film, in the comics the character eventually takes over the mantle of Madame Web.

The Euphoria and The White Lotus star will also be spreading her wings in the rom-com genre soon. She will be starring opposite Top Gun: Maverick's Glen Powell in the upcoming Will Gluck-directed Anyone But You, which is set to premiere on December 15. Those projects, along with the upcoming horror film Immaculate and thriller Echo Valley, should prove beyond all doubt that the actor is capable of pulling off any role she applies her skills to.
