Warning! Spoilers ahead for Batman White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn #5

Harley Quinn's hyenas Bud and Lou are like children to her, something she admits early on in the pages of Batman White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn. In this series she has two children with Jack Napier, aka the Joker, a boy named Bryce and a girl named Jackie. She points out that they are her kids, but her hyenas are her babies. Harley would do anything for her pet hyenas, who were a gift from Jack before he died. It turns out that they would do anything for her as well, seeing as one of them just made the ultimate sacrifice and gave up their life to save her daughter.

In Batman White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn #5, by writer Katana Collins and artist Matteo Scalera, Harley has been working with the Gotham City Police Department to take down the murderers known as Starlet and the Producer. Now that she is close to ruining their plans, Starlet wants to take her out once and for all. The easiest way to take out a powerhouse like Harley is a with a simple accident, like a gas leak, which is exactly the option Starlet goes for. When Harley's apartment building explodes, her hyenas jump into action. Harley easily locates Bryce, but Jackie is a slippery tike and has escaped the nursery. When Harley orders Bud to bring Bryce to safety, he drags her out as well, even though she puts up quite a fight, leaving Lou in the house to track down Harley's daughter.

Harley is completely heartbroken and distraught, arguing with the fire fighters to let her back inside. Fans of hers know that she would likely be able to survive entering the burning building, but she is refused entrance. Against the odds, Lou comes crashing out of a window of the apartment building carrying little Jackie in his mouth. Harley scoops her up, thankful that her and Joker's daughter is alive, but then she realizes that Lou has collapsed. It seems her hyena paid the ultimate price to show Harley just how much he loves her, and her family.

White Knight Harley Quinn #5

Starlet has accomplished nothing except for making Harley even more angry than she already was. If she wasn't dead set on stopping her before, she sure is now. Harley is no fool and will quickly figure out this was an attack directed at her, not an accident. With one of her precious babies losing their life because of her, Starlet is going to be in a whole heap of trouble.

Readers should expect to see Harley go full Harley Quinn on her now in order to revenge the death of Lou. Starlet should be shaking in her black and white boots, because Harley won't forget what she has done — and Bud probably won't either. The next issue is sure to be a doozy, but for now check out Batman White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn #5 — on sale now in stores and online.
