A revival of the drama series White Collar is teased further by series creator Jeff Eastin and star Matt Bomer. Premiering on USA Network in 2009 and lasting until 2014, White Collar centered around Neal Caffrey (Bomer), a conman who agrees to help the FBI capture other criminals in exchange for his freedom. Caffrey relies on his skills and knowledge in the areas of counterfeiting and art thievery in order to serve as an unlikely ally. White Collar was partially inspired by the true story of conman Frank Abagnale Jr, who also served as inspiration for Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can. The USA Network series was a hit with audiences, many of whom enjoyed the evolution of Caffrey’s friendship with FBI agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay).

In late April, Eastin teased the return of White Collar. Taking to Twitter, Eastin shared a photo of the fedora that Caffrey is famous for wearing. Suggesting the character should come out of retirement, the sentiment was quickly met with support from Bomer himself. DeKay also chimed in, which fueled speculation that the trio could be collaborating on some sort of revival. In the series finale, it is revealed that Caffrey had faked his own death. With the slippery conman last seen enjoying life in Paris, there’s certainly room for more adventures.

Now, just a short time after his initial tease, Eastin has posted another update on White Collar. Eastin says that he’s had a great conversation with Bomer, and that they have a plan to bring White Collar back. Check out Eastin’s post, complete with a GIF of Bomer rocking a fedora below. Bomer also quote-tweeted Eastin, adding a few emojis.

The update is brief, but it serves as a clear indication that Caffrey and Burke will soon work together in some form with Eastin at the helm. Whether the reunion will happen soon, similarly to the recent Parks and Recreation episode, or if it’s a more long-term project remains to be seen. White Collar would hardly be the first show to return after initially wrapping things up. Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, and Will & Grace are some of the well-known titles that have returned for brief runs after initially signing off.

In some cases, as with the Will & Grace revival, it was helped by the fact that the characters had plenty of narrative opportunities after so long off the air. The same proved true for Veronica Mars, which expanded its universe in controversial ways. It remains to be seen what shape a White Collar revival would take, particularly whether it’s a one-off special or a full new season. But for fans of the crime drama, any return is likely good news.
